Central Purpose of Job

The Ultrasonic Testing Technician inspects products (primarily steel bars or plate) for defects in accordance with industry and customer requirements. Currently the bulk of this product is in the form of steel round bars between 1” and 12” in diameter, and 15-35 feet in length. Testing is carried out with modern portable ultrasonic inspection equipment and applicable calibration standards, provided by the company. Possible occasional travel to customer and supplier locations to perform inspection related work, consulting on inspection issues, or to train others. The Ultrasonic Testing Technician would be expected to maintain their certification qualifications as long as he/she is in this position.

Primary Responsibilities

•Inspect all products as needed
•Maintain all equipment and standards per CMC Ultrasonic Testing Program procedures and applicable industry standard documents.
•Continuously improve the CMC Ultrasonic Testing Program written procedures over time as new technology or standards become applicable
•Write inspection reports and maintain records of all inspections in a easily retrievable manner
•When inspection workloads are low, assist as needed in areas of quality and production.
Skills:
Knowledge Requirements
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Documented training at technical school or employer program in ultrasonics, training in other methods may be considered.
•At least 2 years of experience in straight beam/shear wave ultrasonic testing, experience in other NDT methods may be considered, Level II employer certification or ACCP certification desirable, will also consider a Level I ready to move to Level II.
•Experience with steel products, especially special bar quality rounds, desirable
•Experience in quality assurance/quality control and production related areas desirable
