Material Manager – leadership, MRP, planning, continuous improvement
A well managed, profitable and growing machining operation is expanding due to increased sales. This is an employee owned ESOP company with good benefits. The company has many long term employees with between 15 to 20 plus years of employment. We are searching for a Material Manager who has work experience in a machining / manufacturing environment. This position is part of the core management team, helping to guide organization. The ideal candidate will be promotable to an executive level position.
The Materials Manager will directly manage the production control / scheduler, buyer, shipping and receiving supervisor and outside vendors. This position is responsible for reviewing quotations, pre-production planning, inventory control, material planning, MRP systems, cost reductions, material negotiations, vendor approval, continuous improvements and systems implementation. Experience working with material vendors / service centers to purchase bar stock in JIT environment is needed. The Materials Manager will review customer and sales forecasts, part history, production data and trends to determine and optimize material usage. Experience monitoring pricing and material cost to ensure profits is a must. Experience planning and coordinating logistics is required. This Manager will work to plan, coordinate, select and approve transportation and shipping vendors. Past experience developing or improving inventory, material planning, purchasing, shipping and receiving systems is a must. Interested candidates will need good communication, negotiation, planning and computer skills. The materials Manager will recommend new technology, software, tracking systems and production controls to ensure customer satisfaction and on-time delivery.
MUST HAVE: 5 plus years of Materials Management in a machine shop environment. Experience in planning, scheduling, purchasing, negotiating, inventory control, logistics, MRP systems, monitoring cost and coordinating outside vendors is a must. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and experience leading cross functional teams. Promotable candidates with the ability to take a future role with more responsibility is preferred.
