Conducts nondestructive examinations, certified welding inspection, video probe inspections, infrared inspections, alloy analysis inspections, evaluate and analyze results and make specific recommendations related to company material and equipment. In addition, the senior NDE technician would assumes lead role for testing and record keeping departmental activities including directing work activities of NDE technicians.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct nondestructive examinations to include; high and low frequency ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant, eddy current, visual and visual torque inspections with the purpose of identifying discontinuities in materials and equipment mostly in pipeline and wellhead integrity.
Analyze and evaluate all nondestructive examinations, video probe and thermograph information and results. Make recommendations to correct the problems, enhance the power plant maintenance management process and aid long-term maintenance and budget planning of equipment and components of company equipment.
Prepare sketches, drawings and reports on test results. Support the coordination and documentation of pre and post outage reports.
Prepare and revise test procedures to comply with codes and regulations. Ensure the company adheres to and meets all codes (American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American National Standards Institute, American Society for Testing and Materials, American Society for Nondestructive Testing, American Petroleum Institute, etc.) related to company equipment and systems.
Keep informed of and evaluate technical developments on nondestructive examination, video probe inspections and infrared inspections.
Provide technical input to assist in development and project planning.
Conduct certified welding inspection to welded fabrications as required by the applicable code section.
Maintain test equipment for use by the nondestructive examinations group.
Adhere to, support and enforce all company safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Skills:
High school diploma or general education degree or certification program or equivalent education and experience; requires two to five years related utility operations or maintenance experience (power plant experience preferred) or five years experience in the maintenance and operation of distribution and /or transmission facilities or two years of experience in NDE/video/infrared analysis techniques.
Ability to read procedures, regulations and process, and instrument diagrams. Ability to write routine reports and work completion on work orders.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to conceptualize and develop creative alternatives to problem resolutions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete concepts.
