SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Level II NDI Technician performs calibrations, Nondestructive Tests, and evaluations for acceptance or rejection determinations according to written instructions and record results. Level II NDI Technicians are qualified to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Level II Technicians are thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the method of NDI being used and should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of Assistants and Level I NDI Technicians. Level II NDI Technicians organize and report results of NDI.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATION
NDI Technican II
• Associates Degree in NDI Technology or equivalent required.
• Capability to acquire a Repairman’s Certificate
• Minimum three years experience in NDI inspection.
• Capability to achieve NDI Level II Certification per Kaiser Aircraft QMS procedures / ASNT certified minimum level 2 in 1 or more NDI disciplines is highly desirable
General Requirements
• FAA, A&P Certificate is desirable
• Understand Military, FAA & Foreign Regulatory Agency standards, regulations and operations.
• Knowledge of quality control methodology, ISO9001/AS9100 quality system standards, root cause corrective action process and aircraft heavy maintenance operations.
• Multi-team leadership skills and experience.
• Excellent problem solving, organization, communication, presentation and writing skills.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS AND DUTIES
Conduct Non Destructive Testing on aircraft airframes and components using techniques involving visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, dye penetrant, eddy current, and other methods of inspection. With limited supervision and/or direction, the NDI Technician:
1. Conducts NDI tests to airframes and/or component parts per manufacturer or industry standard specifications, Kaiser Aircraft approved procedures, and customer’s expectations using all safety and health precautions. When applicable, selects inspection method, determines test equipment, calibrates test equipment to standards, and evaluates results. Orders parts or tooling as needed to complete job. Inspects components and aircraft systems as a qualified NDI Inspector.
2. Researches, prepares, and signs off various documents for record keeping purposes as required by Kaiser Aircraft approved procedures, Technical Orders, manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, and FAA regulations, i.e. turnovers, 8110-3’s, M.O. Sheets, personal training log, and other work order related documents supporting the review squawks and expected hours. Completes additional customer documentation, as necessary.
3. Monitors and maintains test equipment and work area, as required.
4. Depending on experience, may assist with training other team members, as needed.
