Scion Executive Search (www.scionexecutivesearch.com) has
been retained to conduct the search for a new Executive
Director for the American Society of Nondestructive Testing
(ASNT), the world’s largest nonprofit international
technical society for nondestructive testing.

ABOUT AMERICAN SOCIETY OF NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING
The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT)
is the world's largest technical society for nondestructive
testing (NDT) professionals. The organization provides a
forum for exchange of NDT technical information; NDT
educational materials and programs; and standards and
services for the qualification and certification of NDT
personnel. ASNT also promotes the discipline of NDT as a
profession and facilitates NDT research and technology
applications.

ASNT was founded in 1941 (under the name of The American
Industrial Radium and X-Ray Society) and currently boasts a
membership of more than 15,000 including over 600 Corporate
Partner affiliated companies. The Society is structured into
local Sections (or chapters) throughout the world. There are
over 90 chartered local Sections in over 10 countries. Their
membership represents a wide cross-section of NDT
practitioners working in manufacturing, construction,
education, research, consulting, services, and the military.
The Society is the world leader in organizing and sponsoring
conferences and meetings pertaining to NDT.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this exciting executive opportunity, the Executive
Director (ED) serves as Chief Staff Executive (CSE)
reporting directly to the ASNT Board of Directors working as
the executive administrator for all ASNT programs, products,
and services including: membership, certification, technical
services, publications development, conferences, and
policies.

The ideal profile for this role is a collaborative leader
with prior expertise leading work on behalf of a Board of
Directors, partnering with Board officers and building
relationships to help drive a team approach of effective
change management.

Strategy and Planning

• Develop and lead ASNT strategy within the broad
context of the National and International landscape as to
its program offerings, certifications and partnership.
• Work with the Board of Directors to ensure that the
organization has a strategic plan that advances the
Society’s mission, establishes goals and objectives, and
develops metrics to measure progress.
• Apply innovative thinking and performance
measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-
making.
• Drive the strategic planning efforts and
implementation within the Society, providing insights and
options for moving the Society forward in alignment with the
Board’s vision.
• Lead strategy discussions as needed for Board
approval and propose refined actionable items (plans) that
should be voted on, adopted, and/or embraced by the Board.
• Maintain a working knowledge of significant
developments and trends in NDT.
• Foster new ideas and initiatives.
• Lead the Society-wide commitment to a positive focus
on brand integrity and organizational reputation.
• Establish goals, objectives and operational plans
for ASNT in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff
and other Society leaders.
• Build and administer the annual budget, with Board
approval. Provide data, analysis, and background for Board
in its budgetary review and approval process.
• Prudently manage resources and manage all financials
within budget guidelines and in accordance with current laws
and regulations.
Organizational Leadership

• General staff management and hands-on oversight of
the Society.
• Manage and motivate staff, including hiring,
separation, performance management, and staff reviews
regarding compensation and benefits.
• Manage and inspire the internal staff members to
best ensure a positive team environment fostering growth and
professional development.
• Ensure that organization has the appropriate
systems, resources, physical space, and technology to
operate efficiently and effectively.
• Ensure that all staff job descriptions are accurate
and up-to-date, and that sound human resource practices are
in place.
• Responsible for the organizational staff reporting
structures, team make-up, and hiring new staff in the best
interests of the Society.
• Maintain a work environment that attracts, retains,
and motivates a diverse and qualified staff, and which is
conducive to good work.
• Establish sound working relationships and
cooperative arrangements with national and international
groups and other strategic partners.
• Ensure the Society’s growth of member constituents
and lead the successful completion of annual and long-term
work towards the Society’s mission.




Membership Recruitment & Marketing Leadership

• Design new programs to engage and expand the
existing member base (considering the ASNT membership
perspective) and reach new audiences.
• Lead the strategic creation of membership and
Society programs.
• Lead ASNT to add value for international membership
offerings and find ways to execute ways to further gain
industry to participate and advocate for the society.
• Design new marketing plans, and membership offerings
attractive for both the members of the ASNT and the public.

Financial Leadership, Budget, and Accounting Oversight
• Supervise and directly manage the Society’s Finance
team and operations.
• Liaise with Board to implement the annual budget and
organizational goals.
• Annual budget revision and supervision.
• Offer regular reports to the Board.
• Oversee financials.
• Ensure that proper tax, reporting, and related
financial tasks are being done effectively on the
Association’s behalf.
• Work with staff and the Board in preparing an annual
budget, and ensure that the organization operates within
budget guidelines and policies
• Assume responsibility for developing and maintaining
sound financial management and accounting practices.
• Ensure that adequate funds are available and managed
so that the organization can carry out its work.
• Ensure that proper tax, reporting, and related
financial tasks are being done effectively on the
Association’s behalf.
• Report to the Board on operational issues and needs.
• Explore and introduce new ideas where appropriate.

As the Chief Staff Executive, the ED works with a cross-
functional team including, the Chair of Board, Executive
Committee and various Committee Chairs in the following
areas:
• Financial & regulatory management
• External relations
• Effectiveness
• Corporate governance

Skills:
Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant management
experience leading an organization/company larger than $1
million in budget with multiple direct reports.
• Prior expertise leading work on behalf of a Board of
Directors, partnering with Board officers and building
relationships.
• Expertise and/or deep understanding of structures of
working in a membership-/board-driven organization.
• Passion and/or interest in learning nondestructive
testing subject matter topics including certifications,
global standards, NDT programs, trends and safety topics are
very important.
• Prior expertise working in a nonprofit, association
or society a plus.
• Ability to embrace technology and understand new NDT
methods and challenges.
• B.S. in Engineering/Business, related area.
• Leadership and team building domain expertise.
• Experienced negotiating skills.
• Prior experience growing revenue streams, developing
multi-disciplinary staff and leading an organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a
persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent
interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
• Open to up to 25% of travel some of which will be
international, and must possess a valid passport and
driver’s license.
• Certified Association Executive (CAE), and or
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus
but not required.
Evident Ultrasonic Inspection Equipment
