Sonotech, Inc. announces National Stock Number (NSN) for SonoGlide® UP ultrasonic couplant

January 30, 2009—Sonotech, Inc. announces that SonoGlide UP ultrasonic couplant has been awarded National Stock Number 6635-01-565-2310.

SonoGlide UP (Ultra Pure) is an environmentally benign couplant recommended for use in flaw detection on smooth surfaces such as aircraft, turbine rotors, tank cars, boilers, finished bar stock and machined forgings or in thickness gaging where a thin liquid film of ultrasonic couplant is desired. SonoGlide UP has been successfully used for years in the aircraft industry on both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. A superior replacement for propylene glycol and glycerin, SonoGlide UP is slow drying, will not harden on transducers, provides excellent acoustic properties and transducer lubrication, and broad material compatibility over an extended temperature range (-60 to 250°F).
SonoGlide UP is compatible with titanium, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, plastics, and many magnesium alloys. SonoGlide UP should be used where low levels of Halogens and Sulfur are critical and/or where a broad temperature range and very slow drying characteristics are desired.
Sonotech developed its environmentally benign line of couplants to minimize the impact of NDT on the environment. These environmentally benign couplants are comprised of biodegradable materials safe for leave-on applications, contain no dye or fragrance, have low skin irritation potential, and will not stain clothing.
