NRU reactor to stay off-line for months: AECL

Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. has announced that its aging nuclear reactor in Chalk River, Ont., will remain closed for much of the second half of this year, while necessary repairs are completed.
Hugh MacDiarmid, the president and CEO of AECL, updated the public about the expected timetable for the reactor's return to service at a Toronto news conference on Wednesday.
"We're now able to advise that the NRU will not return to service before late 2009," he told reporters on Wednesday morning.
The 52-year-old NRU reactor has been down since May 15, when a heavy water leak was discovered.
