Acertara Acoustic Laboratories, the world's only independent ISO/IEC
17025:2005 accredited medical ultrasound acoustic measurement and testing
laboratory, announces that its recently introduced Artis TDS ultrasonic test
device now provides users with a quantitative assessment of the receive
sensitivity of ultrasound transducers used in the growing and exciting field of
photoacoustic imaging.

Commenting on the Artis time delay spectrometry (TDS) device G. Wayne
Moore President and CEO of Acertara, said: "Many researchers around the world
feel strongly that the unique properties of photoacoustics will rapidly be
adopted and accepted as an important tool in the earlier detection of various
cancers, as well as other diagnostic uses. Photoacoustics combines the
advantages of LASER stimulation of targets with ultrasound receive sensitivity
and system processing providing both morphologic information as well as
functional data. One very key issue in using this technology is to objectively
establish a baseline of sensitivity performance of the ultrasound component of
the probe and matching those sensitivity parameters to the intended clinical
application to ensure an efficacious study." Artis™ does this rapidly by using the
TDS technique to objectively determine the receive sensitivity versus frequency
of the probes.

Once this result has been established for any given probe the physician can
both match the proper probe to the clinical application and have the probe re-
tested as a function of time to ensure continuing baseline performance levels.
At Acertara we believe that new ultrasound technologies, or combination
technologies, such as photoacoustic imaging need to have corresponding test
technologies that ensure both the efficaciousness and safety of the clinical
studies. To that end our R&D team is focused on creating these novel test
technologies as evidenced by the Artis™ product." The Artis™ device is
commercially available and was introduced at the American Institute of
Ultrasound in Medicine in 2012. Artis™ will also be on display in the Acertara
booth at the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium in Dresden, Germany in October of
2012.
