A major global food manufacturer based in the US has entered into a deal with
the Northern Ireland engineering firm, Sepha Ltd. to purchase its leak testing and
product recovery machines. The deal was announced by Head of Sales and
Marketing for Sepha, Paul Kelly, "This is a tremendously important contract for
us with a leading US food manufacturer. The business, secured through our US
distributor, is a result of our leading edge technology, namely, detecting leaks in
blister packs and recovering product from such packs. Our equipment is non-
destructive thereby enabling product to be recovered for sale and faulty
packaging material to be recycled."
"The contract is significant in that it has enabled us to prove the benefits of our
cost saving technology to the food industry, where quality and waste
management are paramount. Generally, our equipment has been the preferred
solution for companies in the global pharmaceutical market where a high degree
of accuracy in leak testing is required. We are delighted that its application
within the food packaging sector will be of benefit to manufacturers where
product integrity and product recovery can have a significant impact on the
bottom line."
The first machine on order is a leak detection device known as Blisterscan.
Blisterscan utilises non-destructive, laser technology to detect small defects in
blister packs down to 7 micron, with objective results being captured for each
individual blister pocket.
The other machine purchased is PressOut Universal which enables the non-
destructive recovery of tablets from blister packs. It is an automated deblistering
machine capable of deblistering tablets from peelable blister packs, at speeds of
more than 50 blisters per minute.
