Vidisco's Portable Digital Radiography Systems Save Time and Money for Shipyards

A recent case study shows that using Vidisco's digital radiography systems, a
shipyard managed to increase its production by more than 25%. There are
several reasons for the increase in productivity. Vidisco's high quality panels are
particularly sensitive; therefore they can produce great X-ray images with
reduced doses. In the shipyard, using Vidisco's DR systems means smaller area
closure, decreased facility shutdowns and, essentially, the ability to work around
the clock.

Vidisco just released a video describing in detail how time and money can be
saved using its systems. It is also possible to meet the Vidisco team and see
demonstrations of the systems at Control Expo, May 14-17 in Stuttgart, Germany
at booth 1907 in Hall 1.

Today, modern ships are made almost exclusively from welded steel. Ship
building begins with welding of large plates together into module blocks, which
are then welded to each other to form the ship’s hull. In this industry, quality
control supervisors search for typical welding defects such as porosity, lack of
fusion, cracks, lack of penetration, slag lines and more.

In most shipyards, production takes place during day shifts, while radiographic
testing takes place during night shifts which can be problematic when trying to
increase productivity.

Vidisco’s portable DR systems were used by the shipyard in order to make the
radiography inspection process more effective. The general goal was to be able
to work days and nights in an effort to increase production. This goal was met
with the help of Vidisco’s systems as area closures decreased and the image
results were accurate and immediate. Since the images are digital and can be
analyzed on the spot, there is no reason to return to often hard-to-reach places
for reshoots. An Association of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT) member recently
reiterated this point in a group discussion: "The biggest upside for us is the
ability to transmit the images immediately to the Engineering Staff to assess
corrective action in minutes rather than hours or days."

Vidisco Ltd. is a leading designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art portable
X-ray inspection systems. For a quarter of a century, Vidisco has been
revolutionizing the X-ray industry and continues to do so with leading products
like the truly portable flat panel based digital X-ray systems.

Adar Yiron, Vidisco’s VP Sales and Marketing exclaimed: "It was very interesting
for us to take part in this case study and learn how much time and money using
Vidisco’s portable digital radiography systems can save. We would like to help
other shipyards around the world make their inspection process more effective.
Vidisco prides itself on manufacturing top-of-the-line radiography systems to
meet all your NDT needs."
