PTI Will Showcase Seal-Scan Ultrasound Inspection System at WestPack for Non-Destructive Pouch Seal Testing
Posted:
PTI Inspection Systems will exhibit the Seal-Scan™ Model 525 Offline Seal
Inspection System at the WestPack Show, February 9-11, 2010 at the Anaheim
Convention Center, Anaheim, CA in Booth 5473.

Seal-Scan™ has been a successful inspection solution for many types of pouches
and flexible packaging. Applications include:

Medical device pouches (joint replacements, stents and catheterization devices)
Pharmaceutical pouches (transdermal patches, wound care products, dressings)
Food pouches (seafood, pet food and other retortable products)
"Seal-Scan™ detects common pouch seal defects that can contribute to poor seal
integrity and affect product quality, sterility and shelf-life," noted Jesse Sklar, PTI
sales manager. "For packagers and processors, the key is to be able to identify
and correct problems before package integrity gets out of control, and Seal-
Scan™ technology is an excellent solution for both quality and process control."

Seal-Scan™ systems utilize non-contact airborne ultrasound to detect various
types of seal defects in porous and non-porous materials. Seal-Scan™ has
proven to be very successful in pouch seal inspection applications by offering:

Improved detection capability from manual visual inspection.
Seal verification and common defect detection (e.g. all channel defects, wrinkles,
inclusions, weak seals, partial seals).
Non-subjective results that are repeatable.
Quantitative traceable data.
PTI Inspection Systems also offers Seal-Scan™ solutions for online seal integrity
inspection. Seal-Scan™ Models 540 and 550 are two configurations that provide
100% in process seal integrity testing for pouches.

"Most package related product recalls are due to common in-process defects
that are not reliably detected by offline or inline visual inspection methods,"
added Sklar. "The Seal-Scan™ 525 also provides the advantage of identifying the
location and type of seal defects which assists in determining how, when and
why package seals fail. The Seal-Scan™ 525 serves as an offline analytical tool
for in-depth heat seal analysis that also pinpoints optimum sealing conditions:
e.g. temperature, dwell time, etc."
