Madrid, 28th July 2014. Turkish Aerospace Industries, TAI,
again relies on Tecnatom and selects it to upgrade its
obsolete inspection equipment. Followed by thorough and
detailed research of Tecnatom’s technological capabilities
and evaluating its flexibility to meet its budget
necessities and possibilities, this new contract comes after
an initial order for the acquisition of the SIAT system
earlier this year. SIAT is a gantry type inspection system,
especially designed to integrate through transmission and
pulse-echo techniques to perform ultrasonic control of flat
and curve parts of constant profile.

Tecnatom built the SIAT system some years ago to provide
internal service within the company and now it has been
integrated into the industrial process developed by TAI at
its facilities in Ankara to inspect composite parts. For
that reason, SIAT was previously upgraded by the
incorporation of more advanced electronics and software,
which Tecnatom is currently integrating in all its supplies,
and was modernized as to its mechanical and operational
aspects.

"Modularity and flexibility of Tecnatom’s equipment and its
own concept of integration enable to upgrade old systems,
under very favourable conditions, that, however, maintain in
good state its mechanical and motion control components",
explains Antonio Tanarro, industrial market manager at
Tecnatom.

After this upgrade, the system will be able to meet the most
strict quality requirements demanded by Airbus to suppliers
for the control of aerospace parts, as well as to improve
productivity.

Wealth experience in system upgrades
Its leadership in the non-destructive testing segment has
driven Tecnatom to develop a line of business specializing
in inspection system upgrade to meet specific demands
required by customers. This area works against obsolescence
ensuring the inspection system upgrade to maintain
profitability and reliability for longer. The upgrade can be
carried out by means of technological evolution or the
incorporation of new capabilities. Tecnatom is also
responsible for the system upgrade from manufacturers which
no longer exist.

"This second contract that TAI has awarded Tecnatom this
year will enable us to turn a system with very limited
service into state-of-the-art equipment, in terms of
ultrasonic electronics and instrumentation software for the
control, acquisition and analysis of data, incorporating new
capabilities such as performing inspections with pulse-echo
techniques. Improvement within this system will allow
increasing productivity at a very adjusted price, as added
value", states Tanarro.

As Airbus suppliers, the consolidation of the collaboration
between Tecnatom and TAI, that along with equipment supply
and upgrade includes technical assistance and staff
training, will contribute to improve productivity and
quality of the aerospace composite materials manufactured by
TAI and finally of Airbus’s own products.

Thanks to these contracts, Tecnatom has now presence in
Turkey as it is working with one of its most important
companies and which is playing a leading role in the
international aerospace industry.

Tecnatom is a multinational company specializing in
engineering, present in 34 countries and with more than 50
years of experience in Non Destructive Testing. With a
turnover of around €118 millions in 2013 and a workforce of
826 people, Tecnatom started its activity within the nuclear
market from where it has diversified and expanded its
technology into new strategic industrial markets: thermal,
petrochemical, transports and aircraft and space.
