ACHIEVEMENTS
Analyzed ¡V Developed ¡V Modified ¡V Implemented - Economized
Analyzed current procedures to validate areas that were working and areas for improvement. Researched modifications and techniques for increasing profit/loss and streamlining operations. Developed and implemented cost-cutting procedures to increase efficiency. Restructured procurement/purchasing to leverage buying power. Reduced field and office expenses. Utilized technicians by matching responsibilities with skills. Instituted a training program for all technicians for field and office practices.
RESULTS: Increased sales/lowered costs, contribution margin of my department to the company went from
(-) to (+) within 1 year ($80K profit based on $380K in sales)
Researched ¡V Designed ¡V Invented ¡V Troubleshot ¡V Problem Solved
Contacted by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation to develop an ultrasonic inspection technique for shear wave inspection of plastic gas pipeline. Researched code standards and ultrasonic materials/techniques for effectively detecting defects in plastic pipeline joints. Used knowledge of ultrasonics to design/procure materials to develop compatible wedges for propagating the correct sound angle and frequency. Established: 1. procedure for calibrating equipment; 2. determined critical defect size for defects; 3. set up a sample pipe with known defects to determine sensitivity of method; 4. accurately detected all known defects in sample.
RESULTS: Detected 19/19 defects in test sample provided by Niagara Mohawk to prove procedure and
technique were reliable and accurate all within a 3 week period.
Evaluated ¡V Mechanical Skills ¡V Inspection Knowledge ¡V Produced Procedure
Developed and implemented an accurate technique for the ultrasonic thickness inspection of paper machine dryers (cast iron). Used knowledge of ultrasonics and materials to develop a procedure. Procured/purchased cast iron samples of different classes (tensile strengths). Communicated need for an instrument/equipment to separate these classes of cast iron to the local NDT equipment sales representative. Designed calibration blocks out of the different cast iron and purchased the most efficient equipment to separate the various classes of cast iron. Initiated and implemented a procedure to accurately measure the thickness of desired paper machine dryers.
RESULTS: Technique established was predominantly more accurate than the known systems used at that
time and currently based on competition with local sales representative who sold this other
system. This technique is extremely accurate and at a significant cost savings.
Monitored ¡V Observed ¡V Operated ¡V Problem Solved - Researched
While radiographer (RT) at South Texas Nuclear Project, TX, with no prior field experience, took initiative to develop skill of radiographing pipeline welds. Started as a Level I-Trainee and continually asked questions of Level II personnel to increase knowledge for field RT inspection. Constantly reviewed procedures and codes so as to identify welds (pipe schedules: diameter, thickness), determine penetrometer size, set up shot and expose film.
RESULTS: Within 6 months, certified to Level I and was performing work of a Level II under their direction
Analyzed ¡V Evaluated ¡V Initiated Action ¡V Perceived Idea ¡V Established Company
Ultrasonic Technology Department at Kamyr, Inc. was abolished in January, 1991. Evaluated situation and analyzed data to start up own company. Persisted to visit banks until the seventh bank backed me with a loan. Also was able to match the bank loan in private investments. Put together all areas for starting a corporation including insurances, purchasing, equipment, personnel, marketing, training, safety, procedures, etc¡K Within 5 years paid off bank loan and within 10 years paid off all investments. Within 5 years sales increased from $30K initially to over $300K annually.
RESULTS: Established company and financing within 4 months
