Experience
Ultimately I am self-accountable and further responsible for ensuring that those individuals I supervise in the capacity of trainer conduct and complete the most comprehensive NDI technique. I am fully capable of performing nondestructive tests and evaluations utilizing conventional and digital radiography, ultrasonic, eddy current, magnetic particle, liquid dye penetrant, spectrometric oil analysis, and visual disciplines to detect, measure, and assess discontinuities and defects on the E-8C, C-130, B-1B, KC-135, E-8C, C-5, and C-17 aircraft airframe and ground support equipment at an intermediate and depot level of maintenance. The Maintenance Operation Center (MOC) also communicates emergent activity; chiefly home station or transient aircraft status that is suspect, questionable, or grounded. I would evaluate the workload schedule and prioritize activity with flight line taking precedence. To minimize impact to back shop activities, potential workload conflicts are identified and the appropriate work center is immediately notified. When workload conflicts are unable to be resolved, I utilize chain of command for guidance and further direction. Communication is key to ensuring the most efficient manner of mission accomplishment.
The use of AF technical data is mandatory when performing nondestructive testing. T.O. 33B-1-1 and 33B-1-2 describes equipment to employ, theory, and process control. Specific Nondestructive instructions are contained in the applicable aircraft T.O. (-36). However, the NDI work center on occasion is presented with a component or sub-assembly for inspection that is not identified in the T.O. Prime consideration is if the material is ferrous or non ferrous, and anticipated type/location/orientation of discontinuity i.e. “surface connected or within the material volume”. I would then select the best NDI application, implement and coordinate a procedure to ensure the highest quality inspection without compromising personnel and equipment safety or sacrificing nondestructive inspection reliability.
I possess six years cumulative experience regarding the use of tools and NDI test equipment. This knowledge base is from all of my AF Reserve, Air National Guard, and civil service training and experience. I have demonstrated performance in the application of state of the art NDI equipment to ensure the highest quality inspection was performed to validate continued serviceability and structural integrity of aircraft airframe, and ground support equipment.
I have written and assisted with the writing of the AF Form 22 and AFTO 242 on this airframe and am familiar with the submission process. These forms are used to add to and update Air Force technical data. I have used these forms to create specific NDI procedures and have them added to our in use technical orders. Also I have used these forms to update specific procedures and technical orders with the most recently authorized equipment, improved inspection techniques, and enhanced job safety.
