Level II Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Technician
Perform Visual Testing, Liquid Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, and Ultrasonic Thickness and Shear Wave Testing Inspections. Inspections include welds on ships’ structures, piping systems, tanks, pressure vessels, and other miscellaneous ships’ systems. Inspections are performed in accordance with government contracts and military standards. Collateral duties include maintaining accurate and up-to-date technical manuals, publications, and military standards used for NDT services on naval and commercial ships and vessels.

Performed nondestructive tests using Visual, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, and Ultrasonic inspection methods in accordance with standards set forth in NSTM Chapter 074 Volume 2, evaluated inspection results and determined accept or reject. Identified materials using Generic Material Identification X-ray Analyzer; prepared records, reports, and drawings using Microsoft Word; reviewed repair quality assurance forms; reviewed formal and controlled work packages; maintained an accurate and up to date inventory of all Ultrasonic Testing equipment utilizing Microsoft Excel; used Microsoft Power Point for in shop training; technical librarian for all divisional technical manuals keeping an accurate and up to date inventory; trained and supervised junior personnel in VT, MT, PT, and UT methods; trained welders on inspection and acceptance criteria; assisted level 3 NDT examiners in writing and editing procedures.
