Project:
43 Km Mokolo Pipeline Project, Lephalale, Ellisras. Phase 1 comprises a pump station at Mokolo Dam and a 45km pipeline.
Scope of Work:
3rd Party Coating and Quality Control Inspections on the pipeline’s interior and exterior linings and coatings.

Project:
Vuwami Water Pipeline. Running a 100 Km, 800 nominal boar, water pipeline from a dam in Venda, South Africa, to supply locals in the area with running water.
My Brief:
To consult on the QC, Coatings and Inspection programmes for interior and exterior linings and coatings on a 10Km section of the pipeline, as well as to train the coating and lining crews carrying out work on the pipe linings, field welds and access stubs.

Position: Technical Support and Coating Inspection
Company: KCA Deutag
Contractor: International Paints
Project:
Ben Rinnes (Refit and Special Survey). International Paints employed me to offer technical support and do coating inspection work on the Jack-Up Drill Rig (the Ben Rinnes ex Songa, ex Ensco, presently owned by KCA Deutag).
Scope of Work:
A refit and special survey was done to the rig. My job was to give technical support and advice to the owner KCA Deutag, as well as find solutions to any coating problems that might arise up and above the technical specification drawn up.
I was also tasked with doing the coating inspection work and the compilation of the data packs that were handed over on completion of the contract. I also had to manage the relationship between International Paints and the owner (KCA Deuteg), the Main Contractor (Dormac) and the Painting Contractor (Damcor).

Position: Blast Yard Manager

Scope of Work:
I was employed by Labore Coatings (a joint venture between Bulldog Projects and Planet Projects) to set up a blast yard, with the primary goal of handling the steel being fabricated by Planet Projects. We also handled any overflow work from the Bulldog yard as well as new contracts that come up. My responsibility was to make sure the workers hit their targets and to oversee the QC and inspection process up to data packs handover.
My duties included ordering stock, controlling man hours, controlling despatch and delivery, overseeing QS and looking after the machinery on site. I also dealt with customers, reported all activity in the yard to my superiors and compiled reports on the daily, weekly and monthly progress of work.

Position: Internal Coatings Supervisor/Inspector

Project:
Eskom’s 28km water pipeline to supply Kusile Power Station. I was approached by Insitu Pipelines to help them with the internal linings of the Kusile Pipeline, which comprised running a 700 nominal boar water pipeline from Eskom’s existing Kendel power station to their new Kusile power station.
Scope of Work:
Initially the job comprised training a blast crew to do the internal field welds on the pipeline, as well as training a QC via remote CCTV to do blast profile inspection, salt testing and visual inspection on the first coat. I was then moved to the second-coat, coating team, to up their production, where I trained painters and a QC to do dry film thickness testing, low voltage sponge testing and high volt spark testing. I also compiled all data and handed it over to the admin staff for data packs to be compiled.

Project:
Transnet (NMPP - New Multi Pipeline Projects) Tank Yard, Heidelberg. Transnet’s new pipeline runs into a tank yard at Heidelberg. Southeys was contracted to do the external and internal linings of the tanks (12 tanks).
Scope of Work:
I was in charge of the external blasting and coatings of the tanks, as well as all of the hand railings and walkways of the tanks.

Position: Pipeline Coating Inspector Level 1

Completing an existing contract. This included doing the blasting, coating, wrapping and inspection of the last 3km of the exterior field welds, as well as blasting, coating, wrapping and inspection of 11 access holes (every 500m). I was also responsible for the crew, equipment, ordering in of supplies and handing over of reports for data packs capturing by the Contractor.

Transnet (NMPP) Durban-Gauteng Pipeline
The new pipeline will enhance Transnet’s pipeline capacity to service the transport needs of refined petroleum products such as petrol, diesel and jet fuel along the Durban-Gauteng corridor.
Scope of Work:
Taking pipeline coating inspection all the way from grit blasting to wrapping. Inspecting check valves, block valves, motorized block valves and remote chambers. Application and inspection of Denzo wrapping, producing daily Inspection Reports and all other duties in compliance with Coating Inspector Level 1 position.
