This company has a fabrication shop in Torrance where I
would often be called out to work on thin & heavy wall pipe
for many local refineries and various other such plants.
Evans provide construction, maintenance & inspection turn-
around services for all types of plants, I was lucky enough
to have the opportunity to work on so many big projects
back-to-back working for Evan’s. I performed a lot of boiler
repair & inspection work on ducks, fabrication and
installation of expansion joints, and repair of welds. This
work was done using SMAW 300 series SS. For example at
Edison, I performed on-going safety maintenance building
platforms and making weld repairs, and fabricated SS lube-
oil tube spools in preparation of the shutdown. On the
shutdown I replaced repaired and installed thermal expansion
joints on all 4 boilers, replaced three 6’’ gate valves,
installed all 4 lube-oil tubes spools, welded two 6” tie-in
HexCr pipe welds, was contracted out to the electricians to
weld conduit foundations for HVAC ducking on Al, and
performed an 8’’ socket weld on an air line pipe. This work
was performed with Carbon alloy material.

Alloy welding specializes in mobile welding
maintenance/construction services for the commercial and
industrial industries with a special focus on plant turn-
around work. This is where I developed my foundation in the
field of welding. All jobs were performed in the field with
a rig truck or a trailer rig hookup. Always in charge of
staging and material preparations, I moved up the ranks
acquiring many skills such as (in order), rigging, torch
cutting, fitting, structural welding, pipe welding, NDT
methods, Reading Drawings and considered most important I
developed many safety habits along the way. Since my
inception at Alloy Welding I have developed a close
relationship with Robert Gutierrez the owner/operator and
have been called back many times to work projects with him.
We have always been able to depend on each other for work
and I have remained a key worker in the successful operation
and completion on many projects.
