FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Under general supervision prepares set ups and prepares parts for non-destructive tests. Under the guidance of a Certified Level III, performs fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, and or pressure test inspections on aircraft engine components. Non-Destructive test include but are not limited to the following procedures.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

FPI TEST

1. Verify that parts are properly pre-cleaned for FPI; may perform pre-cleaning when required.

2. Maintain FPI equipment for effective operation, performing system tests daily, weekly or as required to specifications.

3. Apply penetrant onto the part or test area to be inspected using FPI equipment, remove, dry, and develop.

4. Visually inspect as specified by FAA-approved documentation including Manufacturer, Customer and customized CRT procedures.

5. Special attention must be given to ensure the integrity of any area of the part that may have been subjected to corrosive conditions.

6. Record all results clearly and accurately on an inspection form and in the proper log.

7. Report any deviations to the appropriate Product Leader.

MPI TEST

1. Verify that parts are properly pre-cleaned for MPI; may perform pre-cleaning when required.

2. Maintain MPI equipment for effective operation, perform system tests daily, weekly or as required to specifications.

3. Process parts on the wet horizontal mag unit using the continuous method of inspection.

4. Visually inspect as specified by FAA-approved documentation including Manufacturer, Customer and customized CRT procedures.

MPI TEST (CONTINUED)

5. Special attention must be given to ensure the integrity of any area of the part that may have been subjected to corrosive conditions.

6. Record all results clearly and accurately on an inspection form and in the proper log.

7. Report any deviations to the appropriate Product Leader.

PRESSURE TEST

1. Set up parts for pressure testing under water.

2. Securely plug all openings except the air intake port.

3. Check water in test tank for proper temperature and Ph verification.

4. Apply pressure and inspect as specified by FAA-approved documentation including Manufacturer, Customer and customized CRT procedures.

5. Inspect for air leaks over the time interval specified.

6. Record all results clearly and accurately on an inspection form and in the proper log.

7. Report any deviations to the appropriate Product Leader.
Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Must meet all the general qualifications required of all CRT employees.
2.Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
3.Must complete classroom and on the job training as outlined in the CRT operating procedures manual.
4.Must be able to pass the written and practical examinations required for certification.
5.Minimum of 6 months of OJT and experience under close supervision of a qualified NDT operator.
6.Demonstrated skills, ability and careful attention to precise details of all testing procedures and record keeping.
7.Willingness and ability to learn and progress to higher levels of certification and responsibility.
8.Current ASNT Level II (PT/MT) certification required.
