The groundbreaking pulsed eddy current array (PECA) technology makes corrosion under insulation (CUI) and corrosion under fireproofing (CUF) inspections as much as 10 times faster than with single-element PEC probes.

Québec, Canada, May 17, 2018 — Eddyfi Technologies is proud to be the first to globally market a standard PECA probe dedicated to improving the productivity of corrosion under insulation (CUI) and corrosion under fireproofing (CUF) inspections. As of today, new Lyft® systems will drive array probes. All Lyft units already in the field and covered by the Lyft software and service plan (LSSP) will benefit from major hardware and software upgrades to support PECA technology.

The new 6-element PECA probe is capable of a single-pass coverage of 457 mm (18 in) in grid or high-resolution, dynamic mode. The wide coverage not only makes inspections faster than ever, but also minimizes inspection preparation with Grid-As-U-Go™. The probe’s integrated locking mechanism enables it to adapt to outer diameters 152 mm (6 in) all the way up to flat surfaces, and its spring-loaded wheels ensure smooth acquisitions over buckles and uneven surfaces. Finally, the PECA probe is compatible with Lyft’s SmartPULSE™ and unique compensated wall thickness (CWT) tool. Displaying C-scans has never been this fast, improving overall inspection productivity up to 10 times.

Lyft software 2.0, the upgrade released simultaneously to support PECA, features an improved sizing algorithm over aluminum weather jackets for PECA and single-element PEC probes.

"When we launched the Lyft system, back in 2016, we improved productivity over legacy PEC instruments by an order of magnitude, thanks to our unique dynamic scanning mode and smart electronics. But we would not stop there. We made the promise to continue pushing back the limits of the technology and promised to deliver more innovation for the benefit of existing and future customers. Today, for the hundreds of Lyft users worldwide, we are proud to announce our Lyft platform becomes a powerful, multi-channel parallel PEC system. By upgrading the entire fleet of Lyft with new, array-capable electronics boards and by including this array design in new instruments being shipped going forward, we ensure that pulsed eddy current array is the new standard. It is fair to say that this is a turning point in the history of PEC, and we are proud to lead this game-changing technological advancement. And we have more coming," said Andréanne Potvin, PEC product manager at Eddyfi.

By offering improved productivity, PECA technology now outperforms other CUI inspection techniques in most cases. It offers relative wall thickness measurements and penetrates the entire thickness of components under test, detecting internal and external corrosion. Finally, it is important to add that pulsed eddy current technology does not produce any radiation, hence present no health and safety or regulatory issues.
