Experience
PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
I have over 14 years of experience as an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) in the following categories: Bridges and Structures, Aerospace, Nuclear, Bio-Chemical/ Pharmaceutical, Power Plants (Fossil), Refineries/Petro-Chemical. Additionally, I have over 20 years of experience as a certified welder.
I am an expert craftsman in the field of welding in addition to performing roles as a Senior Quality Assurance / Quality Control Professional.
I have worked as a Field Technician and Quality Manager. I have a strong technical background. My knowledge of codes and specifications (foreign, domestic) has bridged the gap between several different arenas in the construction and fabrication industries. I have a strong background in Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and Visual Testing (VT). I have recently obtained my certifications in both structural and pipe welding inspection per ASME NQA-1. I am currently working towards attaining the following certifications: Penetrant Testing (PT), Mag-Particle Testing (MT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
PROFESSIONAL EXPRIENCE
C&K JOHNSON INDUSTRIES (Bridges and Structure)
Quality Manager, Shop Foreman, Arcata, CA, Sept. 2015 - Oct. 2016
AISC certified fabrication shop specializing in bridges, both transportation and pedestrian (AWS D1.5). We also worked extensively with structure steel (AWS D1.1). Some of the projects I was lucky enough to work on was The Old Bay Bridge, San Francisco Bay Bridge, as well as projects for Cal-Trans and Exxon Mobile.
SPACE EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGIES (Space-X), (Aerospace-Rockets)
Second Shift Team Leader, Hawthorne, CA, April 2015 – Sept. 2016
Worked to the following codes: AIA/NAS, AIAA, ANSI, ASME, ASTM, AWS, IPC, ISO, JEDEC, MIL, NASA, SAE. Worked with GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), OTW (Orbital Tube Welding), EBW (Electron Beam Welding), and FSW (Friction Stir Welding). Supported Structures, Propulsion, Merlin, Transfer Tube, Tanks, Composite, and Research and Development.
CB&I V.C. SUMMER (Nuclear)
Night Shift Lead, Columbia, South Carolina, 2013 – April 2015
Nuclear Quality Control welding / mechanical for two AP 1000 units and their supporting infrastructure. Perform weld inspections on structure (AWS D1.1 / AWS D1.6) and piping (ASME B31.1 / ASME III piping) to ANSI N45.2.6 / NQA-1 criteria. These inspections are being performed on both carbon steel and duplex stainless steel. I was responsible for all Class I / C rated material and equipment, this included everything connected to and the fuel containment area. Performed hydro testing on all types of pipe and piping systems (ASME sec. III, ASTM F1417, ASTM 2164, ANSI / ASME B31.1, NQA-1, NCSP 3-77, and NCSP 4-22). This includes HDPE, critical drain systems (radioactive waste water), cooling water systems, and all emergency shutdown systems. All parts and pieces must have 100% traceability per ASME and ANSI / NQA-1. Provided comprehensive training for all new department personnel.
Traveling independent contractor performing all aspects of QA/QC. I specialize in several areas and codes (AISC, AISI, API, AWS, ASME, ASTM, SSPC, etc.). All processes were performed to A.W.S., A.P.I., A.S.M.E., A.I.S.C., etc. The following is a partial list of major projects I contributed to as an independent contractor:
BIO-CHEMICAL / PHARMACEUTICAL
ITT-PURE FLO / COTTER, MARTEN-PETERSEN DIV. Various Locations
Performed VT both outside and inside (via borescope), recorded all findings, completed all appropriate documentation. High purity systems, all 316L S.S. mostly orbital welding, very few handwelds, mostly skid work and manifolds for direct injectable drugs. FDA 3A Standards. Subcontractors for Eli-Lilly, Gen-tech, Pfizer, Merck.
PROCTER & GAMBLE Lima and Toledo, Ohio
Replaced all C.S. with 316L S.S. high purity process lines. Performed VT on outside and inside (via borescope). Performed all documentation both written and video. Also performed slope verification and documented profilameter readings. All work was to BPE code.
POWERPLANTS (FOSSIL) HIGHLIGHTS
NIPSCO / SCHECK INDUSTRIES, Wheatfield and Michigan City, Indiana
Rebuilding of S.S. catalyst tanks 60’ tall, 15’ dia., all piping and nozzles associated with them. Worked with Scheck Industries. Completed several turnarounds at these plants.
SIEMENS / WHEELABRATOR AIR POLLUTION CONTROL INC. – Georgetown, South Carolina
Consultant on 2 absorber projects with corresponding ductwork and structure. Brought all documentation up to current status. Improved failure rate from 65-70% RT to ZERO in 6-8 weeks. I made changes to the subcontractors W.P.S and QA/QC dept. and dropped that rate to 0% in 6-8 weeks. Rome, Georgia 2 bolt up absorbers with corresponding ductwork, piping, and structure.
IATAN - Kansas City, Missouri
Plant wide expansion, initial started on coal chutes, transferred over to 2 absorber’s being built by CBI (all hastelloy construction including framework).
The absorbers are made of 100% hastelloy, no carbon steel. I had to witness all NDE and performed audits on all material, documentation, etc. I also performed all weld testing and coordinated NDE.

Comments
This is just some of the highlights of projects I've participated and completed.

As for general knowledge, I've actually been a AWS CWI since 2002. I missed my re-certification testing due to the death of my father. AWS made me retake the complete test again in 2012, so I've passed the exam to both AWS D1.1 and API 1104.
