Safety Inspector / Specialist



Location: Quebec, and Ontario (New Pipeline Projects)



Duration: Contract

Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Construction / Project Manager, the Safety Specialist / Inspector will provide active leadership to ensure corporate policies and regional practices and procedures are followed with the additional focus of leveraging best practices within the project.

The incumbent will act as a technical expert resource for safety risk identification and mitigation during routine pipeline and power facility operations, projects and construction act ivies.

This role will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of employee safety programs for the project based on analysis of audit, inspection and statistical findings. The incumbent will ensure the project is in compliance with municipal, provincial, federal regulations including Health & Safety criterion by maintaining high standards of documentation, record keeping and timely reporting.

The successful individual will possess demonstrated leadership with a proven track record of influencing and motivating inspection staff, line management, and contractors that result in positive outcomes.

The incumbent will participate and provide leadership for the following areas:

- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to project personnel on safety processes and issues.
-Provide health & safety guidance and support for project site managers.
-Conduct and act as an expert resource for incident and accident investigations resulting in innovative and practical solutions.
-Liaises with head office Safety, Engineering departments and other projects with the intent of sharing best practices resolving escalated issues.
-Develop plans and actions to mitigate risks identified or related to hazard advisories and projects.
-Plan, deliver and control Company safety programs that support project and corporate business plans.
-Maintain statistical databases, trending and reports for project leadership.
-Assist and monitor employee/contractor safety and emergency response training.
-Work closely with the project Joint Health & Safety committee.
-Lead frequent project safety inspections.

Qualifications/Competencies Required:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and multi-task
- Ability to work independently within a team environment
- Strong computer skills

Education/Experience & Comments:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or equivalent post-secondary education in health and safety or OH&S Certification
- Experience with loss control, risk management and safety programs
- Greater than 5 years experience in a safety field
- Experience with oil and gas or power facilities will be an asset
- This position requires travel to various project sites as required
