Small engineering company with a unique product and large potential for growth. Using our own, patented technology, we design and manufacture automated non-destructive inspection equipment for industrial users.

We are looking for a practical person with an electric/electronics or physics degree with good knowledge or experience in ultrasonics to participate in the research and development of Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducers (EMAT) and associated equipment.

The main tasks are:

- Generate novel, practical EMAT designs and EMAT inspection techniques.
- Model and analyze inspection applications including parameters such as geometry, frequency, angles, dimensions, mode generation, wave propagation and mode interaction.
- Test, evaluate and refine inspection techniques.
- Assist in the design of EMAT system components including: Band pass filters, remote electronics (impedance matching and preamplifiers), RF pulsers and magnet pulsers.
- Participate in product design.
- Prepare and write patents and papers.

This is a permanent, full-time position in Lynchburg, Virginia. Candidates are expected to live in the area.

Qualified candidates must have (do not apply if you don’t have all of them):

- Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Physics degrees. Masters or PhD preferred.
- Understanding of and /or experience with electromagnetic fields and waves applications.
- Understanding of and/or experience with software for modeling acoustic waves.
- Understanding of and/or experience with ultrasonic wave applications.
- Understanding of and/or experience with nondestructive testing applications.
- Understanding of and/or experience with electronic signal processing (analog and digital).
- Good communication skills, written and verbal.
- Practical mind, self-driven and entrepreneurial.

Other desirable characteristics:

- Experience in programming and systems integration.
- Understanding of and/or experience in metallurgy and materials manufacturing (primarily steel).
- CAD knowledge.
