Position Responsibilities
Provides Support for the technology stream and leads the advancement from strategy development through new product launches. The welding engineering will support and create processes and activities within the functional area, and works with the Manufacturing Engineering Section Supervisor as well as Platform Team Managers, Quality Supervisors, Engineering Supervisors and Manufacturing Supervisors to support the development of new business and maintenance of current businesses. Develops design/performance standards, and follows the technical vision within the manufacturing engineering department. In concert with the aforementioned managers, works with the product integration process to insure functional system integrity within the completed vehicle. Works with other Sections to establish the departmental manufacturing engineering and documentation standards. Identifies the customer needs (internal and external) and contract requirements, and prioritizing and translating these from design into a manufactured product meeting or exceeding performance requirements that are documented in a complete technical data package. Develops project cost estimates, projected schedules, and resource requirements, and manage to them throughout the project. Works with the Engineering Section Supervisor to assist the development of manufacturing engineering, product and platform design and performance parameters, technical documentation, and subcontractor specifications. Develops and maintains a robust measurement system and data analysis. Understands reliability growth techniques and their application to the product development process. Accountable and responsible for the utilization of corporate assets which includes it’s people and resources. Performs all other given assignments or duties
Skills:
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or mechanical engineering required, Masters Degree preferred and a minimum of 5 years of metallurgist or welding experience and 3 years of management experience. In lieu of degree, a minimum of 7 years of industry experience in armored vehicles, heavy trucks or tier one automotive supplier. In addition, this position also requires several years of experience in welding methods with a variety of materials. Broad knowledge of market, products and manufacturing capabilities and processes essential. Detailed knowledge of manufacturing capabilities and costing methods, a high degree of technical, analytical, accounting and computer skill required, including proficiency with Microsoft Project. Experience with 3D design packages desired; Solid Works familiarity desired. High level of innovation in problem solving and a skilled project manager. Extremely high degree of systems, processes and creative thinking, demonstrated leadership, initiative and high degree of technical knowledge required. Knowledge of and experience with the Deming Theory of Profound Knowledge is highly desirable. Highly developed communication skills across all levels of the organization, teaching skills required. Exceptional team building behaviors and capabilities required. Individual must work in a safety conscious manner compliant with the company’s safety policies and procedures.
