Job Summary

Skills and knowledge to interpret codes, standards and other contractual documents that control the method as utilized by Alcoa/Howmet Corporation, and select the method and technique for a specific inspection, and prepare and verify the adequacy of the Fluorescent Penetrent procedures. Conduct, direct, train, and test personnel in FPI method certification. Direct control of all quality and technical functions in compliance with corporate and customer specifications.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Follow Alcoa/Howmet’s Safety Regulations and work Rules Handbook along with all department specific safety requirements.

Training and certification of Fluorescent penetrent operators.

Reviews and interprets customer codes, standards, and specifications.

Establishes penetrent techniques that meet the requirement of customer specifications.

Reviews internal process method sheets for correctness.

Develops, revises, and rewrites quality procedures as required to meet customer requirements and specifications.

Defines and authors activity instructions as required to meet manufacturing goals and requirements.

Establishes and maintains penetrent inspection procedures and schedules.

Technical resource for manufacturing in FPI process within Hampton Casting.

Instigates new materials, equipment, and techniques as related to FPI processes.

Solves problems associated with FPI anomalies, equipment malfunction, operator error, manufacturing process abnormalities, customer requirements or internal requirements.

Defines acceptance criteria as required to achieve balance between FPI, Level II and engineers.
Aggressively seeks new and enhanced methods to control costs, increase quality and decrease cycle time to improve cash flow.

Coordinates engineering requirements to FPI personnel to clarify manufacturing understanding as required.

Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.

Job Specifications

1. Education:
This position requires a minimum of an associates degree or a two-year technical degree or certification in an engineering field. Documented training for certified NDT methods, ASNT, NDT Level III, or MIL 410E certification required.

2. Skills and Abilities:

Reads, analyzes, and interprets blue prints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

3. Experience:
This position requires demonstrated training for certified NDT methods, ASNT, NDT Level III, or MIL 410E certification.
