Job Summary:
Prepare inspection plans from drawings and engineering requirements and perform visual and dimensional inspection on fabricated and machined parts. Coordinate inspection with Project Managers, Production Supervisors and Customer representatives. Train and supervise lower level inspection and personnel as directed by the Inspection Manager. Assure that all required inspection is complete and that all required documentation has been accumulated.
Skills:
Essential Functions:
• Review Petersen Inc. and customer drawings and engineering requirements to formulate and document inspection plans
• Perform visual, dimensional and non-destructive (when certified) inspection in accordance with established inspection plans
• Maintain documentation and records in accordance with Petersen and customer requirements
• Facilitate and assist customer representatives in performing source inspection
• Maintain coordination of inspection efforts with Project Managers, Production Managers and Petersen Quality Management
• Provide training and supervision of Inspector I and II personnel
• Maintain safe work environment
• Know Dye Penetrant, Mag Particle, CWI, NDT

Marginal Functions:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to give, receive, and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans.
• Ability to receive and analyze data and input into the computer.
• Through understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD & T) in accordance with ANSI Y14.5.
• Thorough understanding of industry and Petersen Inc. quality system requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively use at least eight of the following tools: Bore gage, gage blocks, Pi tapes, ultrasonic thickness gage, optical comparator, sine plate, precision square, hardness tester, paint thickness gage, Micro-Hite (advance functions), angle plates (right angle and thread), thread gages, thread wires, inside and outside micrometers, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM- advanced functions), and profilometer.
• Demonstrated ability to set up and operate at least three of the following: Ultradex with sine gage, theodolite inspection system, computer data entry/file management, optical tooling (jig transit/optical levels), calibration systems, lasers (linear displacement and axis offset), radiographic, magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspection equipment (at certifiable level).
• Ability to interpret welding specifications and codes and inspect welds appropriately.
• Math skills sufficient to calculate geometric and trigonometric functions such as circumference, chord lengths, arc lengths, rise and slope of right triangles, true position deviations, etc. Algebraic skills to perform conversions, mechanical strength determinations, etc.
• Working knowledge of nondestructive testing techniques such as Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Radiography and Penetrant Inspection.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Education preferred. Three years of inspection commensurate with Petersen Inspector II requirements.

Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.

Essential Physical Functions:
Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds. Requires mobility to access difficult inspection access areas. Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to properly use necessary equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or possible irregular hours.

• Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Availability:
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.
• Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Working Conditions:
Works in a typical fabrication and machine shop environment. Works in varied conditions, such as outside and inside facility work due to size and complexity of product.
