Reports to Field Manager, Boiler & Machinery. Responsible for providing high quality, timely Risk Control service to marketing/underwriting/claims units to allow for informed decisions to maximize profit and growth consistent with Commercial Lines business goals. Investigate claims, identify and evaluate risks, perform surveys and inspections, make sound recommendations for improvement, and effectively report findings to appropriate Boiler & Machinery staff. The incumbent performs jurisdictional inspections on all accounts, loss control surveys on less complex accounts and claims investigations as assigned. The incumbent participates in training opportunities to enhance/develop engineering and produce/service knowledge. The incumbent is supported by a more experienced staff member in the identification and evaluation of risks and in the development of Risk Control recommendations.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Conduct claims occurrence investigations by determining the objects involved, elements of the accident, cause of loss, scope and cost of damage, preventive measures and report findings to appropriate member(s) of Boiler & Machinery staff and insured so that an informed decision can be made to mitigate the loss.

Identify the cause of the claim, the cost and the remedial action(s) taken and planned. Assist the insured and the Claim Division in bringing about an equitable settlement (if covered).

Perform loss control surveys which identify key objects, evaluate risk, and develop Risk Control recommendations and report findings necessary for to determine insurability and/or maintaining profitability.

Conduct boiler and pressure inspections in accordance with jurisdictional requirements by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying codes and standards, recommending corrections, and submitting required reports.

Conduct risk evaluations (e.g., description of the operation, key objects, bottlenecks and general conditions) and report findings of probable exposures and/or unexpected risk to appropriate Boiler & Machinery staff (e.g., Account Executives, Marketing Executives).

Manage workload within an assigned territory by utilizing all available resources; knowing the territory; effectively prioritizing/planning/scheduling and accounting for work; maintaining the data base; providing management information; and, responding to customer needs.

Work with the marketing/underwriting staff to ensure engineering service requirements are met for specific accounts.

Note: In performing the duties required of the position, incumbent may be exposed to:
Extreme temperatures and humidity
Soot, dust, dirt and/or sludge
High noise levels
Asbestos and/or other toxic elements
May be required to be around moving, hot, cold, pressurized and/or
Electrically energized equipment

In performing the functions of the position, the incumbent may be required to:
Climb, balance, maneuver, at high levels and in dark places
Walk on uneven surfaces
Climb through tight openings
Work in confined spaces
Utilize safety equipment including a respirator
