ELECTRICIAN City of Phoenix

RECRUITMENT DATES May 5, 2008 – May 30, 2008.

SALARY $22.67 - $27.67 hourly / $47,154 - $57,554 annualized.

EXPERIENCE Requires the completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship OR three years experience as a journeyman electrician with experience working with voltages in excess of 240V. Experience with 277/480 volt lighting circuits and controls, knowledge in medium/high voltage, and series airfield lighting systems up to 5K volts with constant current regulators is desirable. Knowledge of windows-based computer programs and writing skills are also desired. Please read “Also Required” section for more information. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES Responsible for performing skilled level electrician work in the maintenance, construction, installation, alteration, and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. These duties are performed in various City departments. Positions may be assigned to shop or field location. Certain assignments may include electronics metering and instrumentation. Assignments are received by sketches, blueprints and work orders. Some assignments may require advanced knowledge and experience with computer based low-voltage lighting systems. Currently there are several vacancies throughout the City of Phoenix. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible-to-hire list.

ALSO REQUIRED For some positions, individuals will be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) medical examination, and possess a class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver License Instructional Permit at the time of hire. Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. All positions in the Aviation Department require individuals to pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check prior to hire. Positions in the Police Department must meet the polygraph and background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. Moving objects weighing up to 50, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces and/or working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust pounds may be required. This position also involves walking for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.

EVALUATION Based on written exam. Only applicants who meet the experience requirements will be invited to the written exam. The written exam includes questions on electrical theory, national electrical code, math, motor controls, transformers, completion of basic wiring diagrams, safety and customer service/interpersonal relations.
