This position supports the Ares program at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA. Will develop or improve non-destructive inspection or test techniques. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Design and create test standards or coupons. Document procedures for creating test coupons. Set up specialized test or measurement equipment to controlled standards. Develop procedures for setting up and calibrating existing test equipment. Assist with developing procedures for setting up and calibrating new or innovative test equipment or systems. Perform tests or inspections and collect data for evaluation of products or materials. Analyze test, inspection or statistical data to determine product and processes conformity or assist with corrective action recommendations. Document and communicate test, analysis or measurement results. Provide feedback on adverse trends for process control and quality improvement. Assist in the training of lower-level employees in preparation for certification examinations. Assist in the development of processes, procedures and development of equipment for implementation of new non-destructive testing methods to fulfill Company objectives.

Responsible for non-destructive testing and acceptance of scheduled or special inspections of Company products to ensure continued serviceability and fulfill contractual and regulatory requirements. Work under general direction.

Should possess complete understanding and ability to apply job practices and techniques pertaining to non-destructive evaluation processes (Phased Array Ultrasonic, X-ray, eddy current). Able to interpret results against published standards. Complete knowledge and the ability to interpret policies, practices, processes and procedures, i.e. ISO resources including documentation, as they apply to technical documentation to ensure quality product delivery. Complete knowledge and proficiency in the use of general and precision measuring devices (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, noise/bus/logic/spectrum analyzers, calipers, micrometers, etc.) and associated calibration requirements. Complete knowledge of tool functions and capabilities (e.g., indexing, fixturing, handling) to support the manufacturing processes and flow. Complete knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements and the ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
Skills:
Education Requirements/Level of Experience:
AA degree in related discipline and typically 3 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. U.S. citizenship required. This is a sensitive/safety-sensitive positions and are subject to NASA (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing. Position has a permanent work location of Michoud, LA. A one-year Domestic Temporary Assignment (DTA) to Huntsville, AL is required. Position is contingent upon The Boeing Company receiving program funding from the U.S. Government American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Award anticipated in March 2010.
