X-ray Level 3/Radiation Safety Officer

SpaceX is revolutionizing access to space by developing a family of launch vehicles and spacecraft intended to increase the reliability and reduce the cost of both manned and unmanned space transportation, ultimately by a factor of ten. Our current product line includes the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 launch vehicle as well as our Dragon Space capsule.


Our rapid growth has created an opening for an experienced Ultrasonic Technician to support Phased Array Ultrasonic inspection needs of the Friction Stir Welding group. Selected candidate will be working to develop new techniques and inspection methods for R&D parts for our family of spacecraft including the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 launch vehicles as well as the Dragon Capsule.

Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for writing all procedures for a SpaceX Radiation Safety Program, submitting all applications to own and operate x-ray emitting sources for the purpose of non-destructive testing to the States of California, Texas and Florida and to manage all duties to maintain a radiation program.

The X-ray Level 3 duty responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: develop or improve X-ray inspection procedures and techniques. Set up conventional and specialized test equipment to SpaceX and industry standards. Evaluate current and future X-ray needs on a wide range of materials and geometries to recommend X-ray equipment purchases to satisfy SpaceX inspection needs. Develop procedures for setting up and calibrating test equipment. Perform tests or inspections and collects data for evaluation of products or materials. Manage NDT x-ray outsource vendors. Document and communicate tests results to engineering. Train lower level employees in preparation for certification examinations and continuing education needs. Assist in the development of processes, procedures and development of equipment for implementation of new X-ray testing methods to fulfil Company objectives.

Should possess complete understanding and ability to apply job practices and techniques pertaining to non-destructive x-ray testing. Complete knowledge and the ability to interpret policies, practices, processes, and procedures. Complete knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements and the ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.


Skills:
Requirements:

• Must have required experience to qualify as a Radiation Safety Officer for the purpose of nondestructive testing.
• Radiographic Level 3
• Experience with Digital, Backscatter Techniques and Real-time methods is a plus but not required.
• Level 2 or 3 certification for NDT- including experience with one or more of the following methods: ET, PT, MT, UT, Laser Shearography/Holography or Thermography of Materials.
• NDT work at SpaceX requires physical exertion, successful candidate should be able to bend, left, climb, and work in confined spaces as needed to complete testing tasks.
