JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE
To perform in-process and final inspections on the Assembly Area to assure compliance to CIRCOR Aerospace, Inc.'s Quality System, Specifications and Customer requirements for Industrial and Military/Aerospace products.

REPORTING STRUCTURE AND KEY RELATIONSHIPS

The In process/ Final Assembly Inspector interfaces with the Business Unit Manager, and cross functional employees in “natural work teams” or “mini-business units” , the Quality Leader and KPO office to ensure CIRCOR Aerospace, Inc. customers get the highest quality and the lowest cost and on-time-delivery.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determines conformance of parts and materials to specifications.
• Identify and control all nonconforming products.
• Conduct inspection on complex machined parts, castings, weldments and assemblies per blueprint, manufacturing outline, Customer’s specifications and customer requirements utilizing various types of inspection equipment set up.
• Document inspection results in accordance with company procedures and work instructions.
• Review material’s chemical and physical certification and test reports against specification requirements.
• Review Heat Treat certifications against specification requirements.
• Review of coatings, NDT, welding, certifications against specification requirements.
• Perform First Article Inspection to SAE AS9102 Standards and Customer’s requirements.

NDT Inspector Level II
• Receives instructions from work orders and engineering specifications, build documents, manufacturing processes, standard procedure, or other approved product descriptions.
• Verifies suitability of process plans and tooling to assure compliance to engineering requirements or approved specifications.
• Furnishes necessary information and assistance to responsible departments for preparation of log books, planning sheets, process plans, process reviews, audits, test procedures, etc.
• Uses level III approved NDT Inspection procedures and/or customer specifications.
• Sets up and verifies the calibration of tools and devices to conduct inspection.
• Performs local etching as required to aid inspection per manufacturing process and engineering drawing requirements.
• Performs liquid penetrant inspections ensuring that penetrant materials used are compatible with the material being inspected, that the type and method and sensitivity or the penetrant, developers, emulsifiers and removers are of the correct type to ensure proper inspection results as required by the acceptance/rejection criteria.
• Performs magnetic particle inspection, determining that the part of material is ferromagnetic and that the part is inspected with adequate magnetic field strength and proper field orientation to ensure maximum percentage defect detection capability.
• Interpret, evaluate and documents results in accordance with applicable standards, specifications and procedures.
• Reports inspection test results per applicable codes, standards and specifications.
• Accepts or rejects products based upon conformance to the preceding.
• Completes inspection logbook showing accept/reject parts.
• Stamps appropriate documentation/hardware indicating acceptance or rejection of product.
• Conducts required precleaning, postcleaning and proper handling of materials and parts being inspected.
• Reports all equipment malfunctions and equipment due for calibration to the Quality Director.
• Performs required functional tests and maintains documentation/records as required.
• Keeps test equipment work area clean and orderly.
• May be assigned to work in other areas.
• Instructs and directs the work of lower NDT classified employees
Skills:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES

Education: High School or equivalent. Additional education as required.

Experience: Minimum four years experience in Quality Assurance/ Quality Control or equivalent with Aerospace, Defense Knowledge and experience in the surveillance of specification and processes. Must be trained as an auditor/surveyor. Lean Six-Sigma “green/black belt“ experience preferred.

o Basic mouse skills including highlighting and copying text, using right click for context menus.
o Basic networking skills including searching for documents on the network, organizing documents in a network folder and deleting documents.
• Knowledge of various coatings, heat treat operations, NDT, castings, forgings specifications.
• Knowledge of measurement of screw threads and gears.
• Knowledge of Surface Finishes.
• Must have working knowledge of gauge inspection adjustment and geometry.
• Knowledge of Statistical Quality Control and read SPC Charts.
• Use of Optical tools (e.g., comparator, profiles, microscopes) .
• Must be proficient in the use of precision inspection instruments and equipment .
• The ability to read, understand and interpret complex prints as well as military, industry, and customer specifications and standards.
• Must possess excellent verbal, written and PC communication skills.
• Ability to perform job functions with little or no supervision.
• Capable of cross-training department personnel to perform job functions in various Inspection areas.
• Must possess the ability to work in various inspection areas: Hone, Lap & Grind, and machine shop, Repair & Overhaul, Short Order Shop, Assembly & Test and Final Inspection.
• Assist in the maintenance of the Calibration System and it’s tools and gages.
• Knowledge of various Sampling Plans.
• Working knowledge of trigonometry.
• Understanding of ANSI Y14.5.
• Ability to interface with other departments to solve problems that arise.

NDT Inspector Level II
• Must complete 32 hours of formal classroom training.
• Must be able to complete and pass a general, specific and practical examination.
• Must complete 400 hours of on-the job training.
• Must be able to pass a near vision and color perception examination.
