Project Description:

Our client designs and manufactures automated non-destructive inspection equipment for industrial users. They have recently introduced a next generation ultrasonic testing instrument, and require a NDT expert who can assist with training their clients on its use, and help their engineering team refine and enhance its applications. This is a hand-held “dry” ultrasonic tester which allows for faster, more flexible applications. Because it doesn’t require the water or oil needed for traditional ultrasonic testing the instrument can be used in extreme temperature conditions, and allows for ease of set-up and use. Generally, this tool is used for thickness verification and flaw identification of metal products. As a “product” tester it would be used for steel or pipe producers. It also can be used in existing facilities to test infrastructure components (piping or structural steel)

Day to Day Activities:
The ideal candidate will be a ASNT Level 3 NDT expert with extensive experience with ultrasonic testing. The unique aspect of the role is that they need to have the ability and personality to interact with all levels our client’s customer as well as the internal Engineering staff. They will not be doing day-to-day inspections using the device. Rather, they will be training customer staff in its use. In addition, they will act as a liaison between the customer base and the internal engineering staff on continuous improvement activities. Essentially, they will be the outward facing subject matter expert who can demonstrate the tools existing capabilities, while translating the customer base’s desired application enhancements back to the development teams.

Sample Tasks:
Work with external customers to define requirements, and with internal R&D to develop, test, and refine the techniques.
Help develop inspection procedures.
Supervise In-Service inspection teams.
Train users on equipment and procedures.

Skills:
Extensive NDT experience. UT preferred.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
Practical mind, self-driven and entrepreneurial.
Understanding of and/or experience in metallurgy and materials manufacturing.
Understanding of and/or experience with NDT in Power Generation, Process Industries and Pipelines.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.

Required:
Extensive Non-Destructive Testing experience
Specific Ultrasonic testing experience
Engaging, creative, organized personality

Desired:
ASNT Level 3 Ultrasonic NDT
Industrial Sales experience

Technical Challenge:
They need the technical expertise to understand, use, and train others on this device.
They have tried people with technical expertise, and others who have the customer interaction expertise, but they haven’t found anyone with both sides of the equation.
Without both sides they are not successful.

Location:
Company is Located in the Western VA area.
