Job Summary:

Gulf Engineering Company currently has an opening at the Dow Chemical Plant in Taft, Louisiana for an additional corrosion and materials engineer. The applicant will be responsible for providing materials selection, corrosion control, and asset integrity management advice at a large integrated petrochemical facility along the Gulf Coast. Our internal clients range from research and development, new construction projects, production facilities, maintenance, and utility operations. In this role, the applicant will work closely with a group of highly experienced engineers and technicians by providing technical advice and recommendations. Responsibilities will include trouble shooting and providing long-term solutions for materials related problems experienced at the plant level. This position allows an opportunity to get out into the field and work hands-on to investigate corrosion and mechanical failures.


Requirements:

• Willingness to attend technical training to gain expertise in the corrosion-engineering field.
• Provide materials engineering support in the uses and applications of materials in new projects and plant equipment. This includes support for proper material selection, specifications, testing, and inspection.
• Work with inspectors in the troubleshooting and repair of vessels, tanks, and piping to maximize safety and reliability.
• Applicant should be in good physical condition, with good eyesight.
• Periodic confined space entry and elevated work such as scaffolding and manlifts will be required.
• Applicant must have good written and oral communication skills, including leading/facilitating team and group meetings as well as interacting with project teams, vendors, and inspectors.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and function successfully in a collaborative environment.
• The planning and organizational skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks are necessary.
• Organization skills and the attention to detail necessary to maintain the required documentation are necessary.
• The applicant should have the ability to read and understand equipment and process drawings.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or masters degree in materials, corrosion, or metallurgical engineering is required.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a corrosion and failure mechanism expert for multiple chemical production units
• Perform hands on examinations and analysis of failures and corrosion in the field and in a laboratory.
• Prepare metallurgical samples for micrographic examination.
• Create and present failure analysis reports for review to increase the understanding of failures and help create a safer and more reliable operation.
• Provide technical recommendations to help develop maintenance and repair plans.
• Work closely with managers, engineers, inspectors, operators, and technicians to ensure equipment safety and reliability.
• Provide material selection for new work and repairs.
• Provide positive material identification.
