Senior Project Engineer NDE

The Position:

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is looking for a strong candidate who will perform tasks commensurate with a well versed Ultrasonic Level II whose work experience has been gained primarily within the nuclear power industry. The position is principally the administration and implementation of ASME Section XI, Appendix VIII, and its supplements as applicable to EPRI as the Performance Demonstration (PD) administrator. The candidate will also work directly with EPRI utility members, commercial nuclear inspection vendors, and EPRI nuclear sector staff. EPRI as the administrator of the PD Program will require the candidate of choice to have an unwavering regard for quality and compliance with well established PD protocols and Quality Assurance Program instructions.

Job Functions:
•Be guided by a subject matter experts, PD protocols and Quality Assurance Program instructions in support of the administration of NDE Procedure and Personnel qualifications in the following areas of responsibility:
•Overseeing NDE personnel while they perform their Appendix VIII Manual Ultrasonic Qualifications
•Administer PD Program with a firm understanding of ASME Code requirements
•Perform independent field research at the direction of Program or project managers
•Prepare or provide input to technical documents and Quality Instructions
•Assists Project/Program managers in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals and making presentations
•Document examination procedures, specifications or changes in NDE methods, or equipment where necessary
•Provide EPRI utility member on-site support, as needed
•And, basic project management for the administration of qualifications.

Ideal Candidate:
•Must be certifiable to SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 Level II in Ultrasonic Testing
•PWR and BWR plant design/systems knowledge from NDE Service providers or Utility experience
•Ability to implement ASME Section XI, Appendix VIII Performance demonstration requirements
•Ability to implement the requirements of the EPRI’s Quality Assurance program for PD activities
•Can perform/manage multiple and complex tasks with limited direction.
•Is computer savvy, including familiarity with MS Office suite.
•Database Software or data management knowledge
•Works well in a team environment and independently, yet knows when to ask for guidance.
•Demonstrates a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills.
•Possess excellent problem solving, critical thinking skills and has excellent attention to detail
•Have impeccable communication, writing and presentation skills.
•Ability to convey technical results effectively to other technical staff and to clients/members
•Ability to learn to operate automated, electro-mechanical equipment with motion control systems

Education Level and Years of Experience:
•For this position the industry experience (10 years minimum desired) and being well versed as an Ultrasonic Level II is the primary consideration. Candidates with advanced degrees will be highly sought after but a degree is not required.
