Xcel Energy in Amarillo, TX has an opportunity for a Production Specialist I or II to join its team. This position is targeting the Nondestructive Examination skill set.



Summary
Entry level position designed to utilize technical expertise in a particular area of specialty in support of operations and maintenance across the Xcel fleet. These specialty areas may be, but not limited to, Controls, Electrical, Turbine-Generator/Rotating Equipment, Boilers, Plant Performance, Metallurgy, or Reliability. Position requires extensive interfacing with many departments and plants. Responsibilities are generally 50% in technical support, 30% in outage support, and 20% in maintaining fleet-wide programs and processes. Position would focus primarily in the Energy Supply facilities. Extensive travel may be required within the assigned region of responsibility.


Essential Responsibilities


Under the guidance and supervision of the department manager, coordinate and evaluate station maintenance programs on a daily basis to increase facility reliability.

Provide technical/maintenance direction and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems to appropriate crews.

Provide major facility maintenance project supervision for scheduled and unscheduled outages.

Write specifications and purchase requisitions for services and/or items to support departmental needs.

Coordinate Energy Supply's RCOM program and monitor facility efforts to increase reliability.

Develop, improve, and implement computerized scheduling techniques for major component outage processes.

Perform equipment analysis and inspection to accurately make recommendations for corrective action when necessary.

Act as liaison between contactors/service providers and the Company. Interface with the State Inspector and authorized insurance agent, and other regulatory agencies. Write specifications and purchase requisitions to support Production Resources activities.

Skills:
Required
College level coursework and/or work experience demonstrating knowledge of standard engineering principles, practices and techniques. Experience in power generation or similar industrial experience is desirable. Must be able to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.

PRODUCTION SPECIALIST I Preferred Requirements:

Associates Degree in Nondestructive Examination from an accredited program or equivalent documented training and experience. Minimum Level II certifications in Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant are required. Minimum Level II certification in either Radiography or shear wave Ultrasonics is required; phased array experience is preferred. ASNT NDE Level III certification in any method is preferred. Previous experience/certification in Thermography is preferred. Candidate shall have a minimum of five (5) years experience in inspection of fossil-fueled boiler power plants; experience in inspection of all high energy systems, i.e., boiler, turbine and piping, is preferred. NDE project management experience is preferred. Must be able to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules. Must be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.

PRODUCTION SPECIALIST II Preferred Requirements

Associates Degree in Nondestructive Examination from an accredited program or equivalent documented training and experience. ASNT NDE Level III’s in Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant and in one volumetric method (Radiography, Ultrasonics or Eddy Current) are required. Previous experience/certification in Thermography is preferred. Candidate shall have a minimum of ten (10) years experience in NDE project management in fossil-fueled boiler power plants; experience in inspection of all high energy systems, i.e., boiler, turbine and piping, is preferred. Experience supervising inspection craft employees is required. Must be able to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules. Must be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.
