NDE Engineer

Responsibilities

Become familiar with emerging NDE technologies and
development of
new technology for practical applications.
Conduct feasibility studies to bring appropriate NDE
methodsinto
production use.
Conduct probability of detection studies on new or existing
NDE
methods.
Provide training to floor level NDE inspectors on new
inspection
methods.
Interface with design, structures engineering, and
production in
order to provide feedback and understanding of NDE
inspection
results and reports.
Work closely with our Propulsion, Structures, Launch and
Avionics
Engineers to determine inspection needs and communicate NDE
abilities.
Writing technical manuals, specifications, and procedures.
Working with design engineering teams to ensure that new
product
designs are compatible with nondestructive testing
requirements.
Evaluate current testing capability and make recommendations
for
reliability, consistency, speed, and cost improvements.
Design support tooling for NDE inspection systems and
automate/robotize inspections where possible.

Skills:
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical field.
A minimum 5 years’ hands on working experience with NDE
methodologies.
Required ASNT Level III certification within 6 months of
employment
if not already done so.
In-depth knowledge and experience with aerospace industrial
codes
and standards.
Working knowledge or experience in Acoustic emission,
Radiography,
Ultrasonic, Eddy Current, and Liquid Penetrant methods.
Experience
in Thermography and Laser Shearography also preferred.
Working experience with Unigraphics 7.5, or experience with
other
common industry CAD/CAM software to design NDE support
tooling
components.
Mechanical Engineering abilities to design support tooling
for NDE
inspection systems and to automate/robotize inspections.

Preferred skills

Hold an ASNT Level 3 in one or more methods.
Knowledge and experience in materials and process
engineering.
Working knowledge of valves, regulators, fluid and pneumatic
components.
Strong fundamental understanding of physics.
Fundamental understanding of fracture mechanics of materials
(metallic and composite materials).
Hands-on experience with fluid and gas handlingspace or
aerospace
mechanical systems.
Experience using test instrumentation and control
components:
TensileMechanical testing methods and equipment, pressure
testing
systems, automation/robot systems.

Additional Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export
regulations,
applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident
of the
U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)
(3), or
eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S.
Department of State.
