POSITION SUMMARY
The Product Testing Engineer will manage the non-destructive and destructive testing capabilities at AJAX including 5-10% travel, sometimes on short-notice. This position’s primary responsibility is to guarantee that non-destructive (NDT) and destructive (DT) testing are being performed consistently according to customer and industry standards and to document, maintain and publish AJAX capabilities for reference by customers and the other support groups at AJAX.

MUST BE ASNT CERTIFIED LEVEL II IN UT, PT, MT.

Provide support to departments that need help to resolve problems that could negatively affect the safety of an AJAX employee or the quality of the rings produced as related to NDT or DT testing.

Perform on-site UT, Dye penetrant and Magnetic Particle Testing on customer products, tooling and any other item that may require NDT examination.

Review all customer specifications for capability and compliance to NDT testing requirements, document capability for future reference and respond to customers (internally or externally) within agreed upon time line. Typical response standard is within the same business day not later than 24 hrs.

Work with NDE Technician Level III to continually improve the training programs for AJAX personnel to become capable of performing basic NDT as needed for product compliance.

Maintains NDE Technician Level II status under The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) or equivalent industry recognized organization.

Perform periodic audits and testing of personnel for continual compliance to national standards.

Maintain technical document library to guarantee that specifications are the most recent versions and available for use.

Maintain AJAX NDT testing procedures and work instructions for accuracy and compliance.

Travel to customers to perform NDT examination of rings as needed for compliance or assistance with a non-conforming product.

HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

On a daily basis, review testing schedule and communicate with sales and production manager to verify proper production priorities.

Complete accurate and all-inclusive quality documentation of NDT testing-related procedures for both production and first-article/Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submittals to the customer.

Perform proper maintenance, calibration and documentation of all NDT equipment.

Regularly verify that NDT test standards are available on-time and in proper condition to complete the testing while maintaining the delivery schedule.

Track NDT quality metrics and prepare monthly report to submit to Quality manager.
Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A.A., A.S. or equivalent) in engineering technology or similar field of study from two-year college or technical school; six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail, internet programs and the NDT equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Forklift Certification (AJAX certified), NDE Technician Level II (or higher) Certification for UT, PT, and MT.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must be self-motivated and well organized.
