PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide instruction in the Non-Destructive Testing and
Inspection (NDTI) program at the Manufacturing and Applied
Technology Center (MATC) on the Redmond, Oregon campus of
the college as a member of an instructional team of full-
time and part-time instructors. The MATC is a self paced
learning environment where instruction is delivered in a
mentorship model that may include but is not limited to,
direct one-on-one student discussions, small group
breakouts, lectures, hands-on demonstrations of
manufacturing processes, e-learning, electronic and
traditional examinations, and workmanship evaluations.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS:

Essential Functions

1. Provide classroom, lab instruction and testing in
NDTI subjects generally prescribed by recommended practice
SNT-TC-1A of the American Society for Nondestructive
Testing. Major topics in the program include: Ultrasonic
Testing, Eddy Current Testing, Magnetic Particle / Dye
Penetrant Testing, and Radiological Testing.

2. Deliver coursework using the MATC self-paced
learning environment. Full-time teaching requires 45 load
units per 9 month contract. Teaching assignments may include
courses taught anytime during the NDTI open classroom
schedule. Other teaching opportunities may occur during the
days and/or evenings and/or weekends, including classes
taught on or off campus.

3. Oversee the safety and supervision of students in
all NDTI labs.

4. Track student enrollment, attendance and academic
progress; submit student-grading information using college
systems.

5. Assist in classroom setup, computers, laboratories,
and other support equipment required for classes as
necessary.

6. Assist in preparation, and maintenance of NDTI
course curriculum and support documents

7. Provide community service. This includes teaching
both credit and non-credit courses in the various
communities of the College district, as other
responsibilities allow, and articulating with members of the
community regarding education interests and needs and the
College's ability to provide educational services. Community
service also includes developing seminars and short courses,
as other responsibilities allow.

8. Provide Student Advising and Assistance for current
and prospective NDTI / MATC students. Faculty provide
academic advising to an average of 30 students. A minimum of
five office hours per week are required for student help
sessions and program assistance.


9. Other College Responsibilities. This may include
cooperating with administration in program and course
development, participating on College committees, in faculty
organizations, and professional advisory committee meetings.

10. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to
each location, as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions

1. Cooperate with other College personnel to assist
students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up
studies.

2. Act as a resource person for students.

3. Work with appropriate College personnel to write
proposals for program funds.
Skills:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and
abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the
individual can perform the essential functions of the job,
with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other
combination of skills and abilities.

1. Broad knowledge in the field of Non Destructive
Testing and Inspection. General knowledge and skills
necessary to instruct in NDTI include topics such as:
technical report preparation, ultrasonic inspection
techniques, eddy current inspection techniques, dye
penetrant inspection techniques, magnetic particle
inspection techniques, radiographic inspection techniques
(both tube type and isotopic), X-ray film developing and
reading, and basic metallurgy.

2. Must possess the ability to support expansion of the
NDTI program to incorporate future trends in manufacturing
and provide skill levels necessary to respond to this
evolving, changing industry and workforce in Central Oregon.

3. Must be comfortable working in a team teaching
situation using the self paced learning environment model
where mentorship and one-on-one student learning dominate.

4. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally
and in writing, using the English language with or without
the use of an interpreter.

5. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee
the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead
projectors, film, sound systems, video, television,
interactive video and audio equipment including computer
controlled mixed media presentations.

6. Must be computer literate with the ability to meet
curriculum and program needs on a computer with minimal
assistance.

7. Must be a self-starter, capable of independent
action without supervision in compliance with COCC policies
and procedures.

8. Must possess a high degree of professionalism and
integrity, able to work effectively with peers, supervisors,
students, and the public.

9. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts
presented in training programs, conferences and/or
professional literature.

10. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours
and locations, as required.
11. Ability to competently advise and/or serve students
from a variety of background, respecting cultural and socio-
economic differences.
