District QC Engineer

This position is a district office based position providing experienced support to field projects within the Cherne Contracting Corporation District located in Minneapolis, MN. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like to transition from a project-based QC role and who would like to enjoy a more stable personal life with family and community involvement. Relocation will be provided for candidates and their famiulies to the Minneapolis/St Paul area.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
To assist the District Quality Manager in the overall management of the quality assurance program. To provide technical support to Project Quality Manager’s in their implementation of the site quality programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Experience, education, licenses, certifications, and specific knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position)
1.Two or Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
2.Minimum of 10 years experience in the QC inspection field must be related to heavy industrial construction, principally power or petrochemical industries, 5 years of which should be in quality management. Cross training in multiple construction disciplines such as civil, mechanical, structural, piping, instrumentation, and insulation is desirable.
3.Effective knowledge of quality codes and standards including ASME, API, AWS, ASNT, and ASTM.
4.Prior experience with technical writing as related to quality procedures and/or manuals is a plus.
5.AWS QC1 Welding Inspector certification is required.
6.ASNT Level III certification in MT/PT/RT desirable.
7.Prior experience with development of welding procedures to meet ASME IX and AWS.
8.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, which facilitate good working relationships with client, craft, management, and Cherne staff.
9.Willingness to travel to projects as a part of duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Fundamental duties necessary to achieve the objective of the position)
1.Maintain and update corporate quality manuals ensuring that contents address all current client and industry requirements.
2.Coordinate triennial recertification for ASME stamps.
3.Develop and maintain welding procedures, ensuring that changes in industry practice are required.
4.Review bid specifications to provide input into project bid process regarding quality requirements.
5.Develop, organize, and issue QC/Welding documents during front end planning of new projects.
6.Provide technical assistance to Project Quality Managers throughout their project.
7.Audit site quality programs as needed.
8.Conduct quality training for new staff personnel.
9.Assist with RFQ’s/subcontracts for special services such as NDE, PWHT.
10.Maintain current status of ASME, ASTM, AWS, and API codes.
11.Excellent computer skills with strong proficiency in the use of Word and Excel.
12.Perform additional functions, as needed or as assigned.
