Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Assistant

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for ensuring specific quality metrics in support of fabricating wind turbine towers. Visual, Magnetic Particle, and Ultrasonic inspections will be measured before and after completion on the following processes: gas metal arc welding (GMAC), flux core arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment by following all safety protocols and performing routine housekeeping and workplace organization.
2. Executing inspection on value class A components (Tower sections, flanges and steel plates).
3. Perform activities of position as outlined in Production Inspection Instructions.
4. Perform product quality inspections and make corrections as required.
5. Operate material handling equipment, overhead crane and rigging, to fit-up and relocate tower section components.
6. Perform daily maintenance inspections on equipment and correct minor issues.
7. Coordinate with Team Leaders and other production employees to prioritize products to process.
8. Work with assigned welding group to complete tasks as a team.
9. Communicate quality and safety concerns with welding group and Team Lead.
10. Other duties may be assigned.


EDUCATION and MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
2. High school diploma/GED
3. Able to speak, read and understand English.
4. Documented training and experience hours signed by a NDT Level III in the following Non-Destructive Testing Methods: VT – Visual Testing, MT - Magnetic Particle Testing, and UT – Ultrasonic Testing.
5. Minimum training/experience hours must meet or exceed the ASNT SNT-TC-1A requirements in the following methods/ levels:
· VT – Level II:
· (24 training hours / 210 minimum hours in method)

· MT – Level II:
· (20 training hours / 280 minimum hours in method)

· UT–Level II:
· (80 training hours / 840 minimum hours in method)

6. Employment conditional upon passing the inspection skills assessment: General Examination, Practical Examination, and Specific Examination.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Background as blacksmith, electrician, quality technician or the likewise.
2. Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and European Standards.
3. Previous UT testing on steel plates and weldments.
4. 2-5 years experience within quality inspection.
5. Excellent organizational skills.
6. Clarity of communication skills, dynamic, flexible and the ability to work in an environment of change.
7. Comfortable working on the production floor.
8. Ability to understand technical information and data.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Standing and or walking for periods up to 3 hours.
2. Frequent heavy lifting of up to 75 pounds from floor to shoulder height.
3. Use of hand tools weighing up to 15 pounds.
4. Kneeling required up to 30% of work time.
5. Operation of hand-held grinder up to 2 hours per day.
6. Movement of wheel barrels up to 200 feet.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Heavy industrial work environment, loud machine noise from production floor, exposure to welding flash and grinding sparks.

WORKPLACE HAZARD ASSESSMENT
Workplace hazards may include hazardous chemicals, potential for eye injuries from metal or mechanical parts, heavy lifting, or foot injuries from falling objects. Employees in these areas must use safety glasses, hearing protection and wear steel-toed boots.
