Applications Engineer

and CNC grinding equipment.

We are searching for an Applications Engineer to support
turnkey CNC machining process development. This is a
regional position working with mostly local customers
around the greater Detroit area. The focus of the
Applications Engineer is to lead projects developing
turnkey process for CNC turning, milling, grinding and
automated loading systems. This position will integrate
machining cells. These machining cells may include CNC
lathes, CNC machining centers, CNC grinders, automation,
conveyors, robotic units, pick place units, vision
systems and lases gauging. The Applications Engineer
will lead the project working with customers, vendors,
CNC programmers, controls engineers and support
associates. The main criteria is strong CNC machining
experience. The Applications Engineer will plan the
project and work with team members to develop turnkey
machining cells. Experience conducting capability, run
at rate and CPK studies is needed. The Applications
Engineer will work closely with cutting tool and work
holding vendors to integrate technology into the process.
Knowledge of speeds, feeds, fixturing, chip load and
metal finishing is needed. The Applications Engineer
will lead the team to develop, install, debug,
troubleshoot and implement CNC turning, milling and
grinding cells. Strong troubleshooting skills with the
ability to diagnose timing and machining issues is a
must. The Application Engineer will work with CNC
programmers to develop machine code. Knowledge of CNC
programming is a plus. The ideal candidate will have the
ability to read CNC code. Knowledge of PLC’s is a plus
but not required. Past experience launching new
components is a must. The Applications Engineer will
work with customers on machine tool run offs and
approvals. Past experience training others on new
technology is preferred.

MSUT HAVE: a minimum of 5 years of experience developing
processes and launching new components on CNC lathes, CNC
mills and CNC machining centers. Past experience working
with high speed equipment, automation, robotics and
inspection equipment is preferred. Manufacturing
Engineers, Process Engineers or Applications Engineer
with strong CNC machining skills should apply.
Candidates will need solid project management and
communications skills.
