NDT Specialist
Leading steel manufacturer is adding an experienced NDT Specialist to support their Pittsburgh area manufacturing operations.

This position is responsible to ensure all manufactured products comply with internal and industry specifications (including API Q1/ISO 9001) along with Non-Destructive Tests. The scope of responsibility also involves evaluation of product, training NDT personnel and support operations to define Best Practices across corporation.

Main Responsibilities
• Capable of developing, qualifying and approving NDT procedures and associated techniques
• Interpret codes, standards, specifications, procedures, designating the NDT methods and procedures to be used
• Provide continual and interacting NDT support to operations departments so that operations can modify process to get the best quality of the product.
• Establish NDT operating setups and acceptance criteria when none are available
• Understanding of API, ISO and ASNT requirements
• Support operations in the definition and follow up of the Preventive Maintenance activities and schedules
• Provide expert advice about NDT issues and QA-related projects involving manufacturing practices or the final decision for the acceptance or rejection of product
• Develops NDT auditing plans for compliance with NDT written practices and oversees NDT audits
• Work as NDT savvy where a decision must be taken related to quality of the product
• Represents Maintenance on Quality and Continuous Improvement teams and initiatives
• Apply techniques that support and sustain employee enthusiasm and implement strategies that enable parties with opposing outlooks to recognize common goals and work together to achieve them

Skills:
Education & Experience
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline or +15 years working with NDT methods
• Ten to fifteen years of total experience with significant experience in operations and quality assurance
• Tubular and/or steel manufacturing processes (preferred in products used in oil and gas industry)

Preferred Knowledge & Experience
• Minimum of Level II certification in UT, MT and MFL (EMI) methods from ASNT, or equivalent. Preferable with ASNT NDT Level III certification in UT, MT, and MFL (EMI).
• A minimum of 5 years of experience using automated NDT systems – EMI and UT
• Strong knowledge and experience of NDT principles; theory and practical application of nondestructive testing methods (UT, MT, EMI)
• In-depth knowledge and experience of NDT inspection methods used in the tubular products and/or related industry
• Problem solving (5 Why, 8D, fishbone, etc.)
• Preferable Quality improvement processes (Process flows, FMEA, Control Plans)
• Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and processes.
• Hands on experience in conducting NDT inspection using UT, MT and MFL (EMI)
• Capable to calibrate and do minor maintenance to the inspection units.
• Experience with NDT techniques and the development of training programs and materials
• Demonstrated capability in developing NDT Level I and II training and testing material and administering training programs for NDT personnel for certification and re-certification
• Knowledge of operations, equipment and machinery
• Thorough knowledge of API specifications preferable
• Experience working with MS Office
• Experience writing technical reports summarizing key findings and identifying next steps
• Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks
• Able to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
