Raytheons Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Directorate uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon Six Sigma principles.

The Manufacturing Processes Section (MP Section) has an opportunity for an NDT (Nondestructive Test) Engineer in a pivotal role to support manufacturing and inspection of a wide variety of products. The NDT Engineer will provide technical oversight of NDT inspections and interpretations in order to verify thorough execution of all technical data package requirements. This will include but is not limited to maintenance of personnel certifications, training, development, monitoring and verification of inspection procedures. You will interact and effectively communicate with direct labor personnel, engineers, managers, customer representatives and external suppliers. Timely execution of problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in support of internal and external requirements and schedules is an essential component of the position.

The MP Section of the Materials Engineering Department directly supports manufacturing operations with technical expertise, laboratory capabilities and industrial and field experience. The group provides technical expertise in metallurgy, composites, coatings, chemistry, welding and nondestructive testing. Engineering support in metals processing disciplines includes: metals selection and validation, machining, sheet metal and joining techniques. The Section participates in supporting operations both within Raytheon facilities and at subcontractor, supplier, field and customer locations. A variety of techniques are used to support dynamic production environments including statistical analysis, R6S tools and Design of Experiments (DoE). The MP Section also provides a wide variety of capabilities for design development, failure analysis and manufacturing support. Analytical capabilities include metallography, scanning electron microscopy, chemical analysis, construction analysis, ultrasonic, radiography, eddy current and dye penetrant inspection.

Required Skills:


Minimum of 2 years of related experience

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Desired Skills:


NAS 410 Level 3 Certification in Radiographic Film / Filmless Testing, Ultrasonic Contact / C SAM Testing, Fluorescent / Visible dye Penetrant Testing, Magnetic particle Wet / Dry Testing, & Visual / Weld inspections

Knowledge of MIL STD 883 & 750

JEDEC J-STD-035

Currently or previously certified as a Level 2 in accordance with NAS-410

Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, ASTM, MIL STD & AWS specifications and other technical material and then translating into practical procedural instructions

Experience interpreting and developing NDT Technique sheets

Experience in establishing inspection procedures and techniques and flow down appropriate requirements to the shop floor personnel and external supplies for both NDT and visual weld inspection

Other Failure Analysis equipment (Digital / Optical Microscopes, Laser Milling, Die Shear/Bond Pull machine, Plasma Etching)

Knowledge of ESD protection

Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Materials and Process Specifications


Required Education (including Major):


BS degree in a related field OR equivalent experience and education (each 2 years of related experience can substitute for 1 year of related education).
