BWX Technologies, Inc. is looking for an ideal candidate to fulfil the role of a Principal UT Engineer as part of their Nuclear Operations Group, Quality Assurance Department. This UT Engineer is responsible for the technical excellence of our NDT programs specifically related to UT operations and inspections. This individual will have authority to direct activities related to UT inspections, and has overall cognizance for processes, procedures, technique development, training activities, and generation of UT masters. This individual will provide technical leadership and guidance for all sites regarding UT activities.



This Engineer will also have technical cognizance over NOG northern sites Supplier UT activities. While supplier activities will continue to be controlled by facility NDE personnel, technical corroboration will be expected with the UT Principal Examiner.



Minimum Requirements



Minimum Bachelor’s in Engineering (preference for Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering)

Four (4) years’ experience in UT and other NDT methods such as Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant and/or Radiography.

Acts as a resource to other team members; lead projects with limited risks and resource requirements.

Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in UT and general knowledge in related areas.

Working independently with minimal guidance uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.

Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.

Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate the company in the market.

Requires expanded conceptual knowledge and experience in own area of expertise while still developing additional skill sets and capabilities.

Solves standard problems by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience and judgment and precedents.

Understands key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work n Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team; works within guidelines and policies.

Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.


Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. citizenship with (no dual citizenship) ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
