This position would also entail the planning and execution of experiments to assess radiation effects on materials and components.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Use radiography capabilities to image and analyze materials, test devices and hardware important to our scientific and national defense missions
Plan, set up and run experiments to explore the effects of ionizing radiation on materials and component functionality
Design, assemble and test mechanical and electrical devices that support scientific experiments
Develop instrumentation, electronics and software controls
Maintain and upgrade experimental equipment, develop operational procedures, perform experiments, analyze results and prepare documentation on test results and conclusions
Develop safety documentation and maintain a safe working environment
Work with people outside the department, such as machine shop staff and external vendors
Your work will consist of providing laboratory support for focused, full-time projects of limited duration or multiple concurrent projects that compose the candidates full schedule. You will be able to accommodate either type of workload. You also need to have good oral and written communication skills and to work both independently as well as with a team.
