Responsibilities:

The Civil Inspector will be responsible for inspecting all phases of contracted construction work. The classification requires being familiar with the operations and function of various types of construction equipment, and to be skilled in the use of tools associated with such work. The inspector will have the highest qualifications of leadership and supervisory ability and must possess knowledge of company construction and safety standards, cost management, clerical practices, and any other applicable company or department rules and procedures.

The work hours are either 4 days a week ten hours a day or 8 hours a day five days a week. There may be overtime, holiday and weekend work as well. Additionally, inspectors may have to work in adverse weather conditions and work in stressful situations.

The job has twelve components including safety practices, daily log books, attendance, clearances, quality control, supervision of on-site work, job and cost tracking, material disbursement control, engineering and job scope changes and field change orders, print corrections, general responsibilities, key dates planning and references and forms. The jobs are a six-month contract, which may be extended.

The Civil Inspector will typically be someone with 10 or more years Experience such as a Hydro or Electric Substation Inspector (4704) or GC Carpenter A (0163).
Jobs typically last a few days to weeks.
Some last Several months.
Civil Inspectors deal with paving, grading, building improvements, seismic retrofits and substation concrete foundation work.
Good oral and written communications is required. Inspectors are expected to deal firmly, but cordially with the contractors we hire for this work to ensure the work is built to the company's requirements.
Inspectors need to be able to read drawings, plan and lay out work, and find and interpret design standards.
Sr. Inspectors are expected to make sure the contractors work safely, stop them when they don't and be knowledgeable of both PG&E and Cal OSHA safety rules.
