ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Ensures Compliance with welding standards.
2. Collaborate with Foremen and Leadermen to implement the weld sequence and improve welder productivity and quality.
3. Perform site surveillance of the weld process and weld procedures.
4. Participate in the development of weld process optimization to improve efficiency and productivity.
5. Coordinate resolution of nonconforming weld issues with Quality Assurance and Management.
6. Maintain weld certification database.
7. Perform testing and training for new hires and current employees.
8. Develop and implement weld test procedures.
9. Present the welding program to customers and regulatory agencies for compliance audits.
10. Participate in build strategy development with DBT & establish standard joint details to be used on new construction projects.


1. Will be assigned miscellaneous quality technician tasks outside craft as required.
2. Works with little or no supervision.
3. Lends technical assistance to supervision and other personnel.
4. Able to demonstrate understanding of Navy Standard Items and Quality Standards.
5. Read, interpret and work from blueprints, layouts, job specifications, weld symbols or verbal instruction.
6. Determine that job sites, particularly those involving combustible material are safe for personnel and, when required, hot work.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive knowledge of FCAW, SAW, GTAW, SMAW weld process applications and weld joint design.
Knowledge of NDE methods. MT, PT, UT, and RT
Prefer a background in mechanized welding


PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand (minimum of two hours while conducting regular work duties), walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on board ships. The employee will frequently use both hands to grasp rails while climbing, to hold and carry tools and equipment, to operate tools and machinery. The employee must be able to respond to voice or visual commands. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds on a consistent (daily) basis.


WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: wet or humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places; exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
