Sensor Networks Helps Manufacture COVID-19 Protective Gear

It takes a village: Sensor Networks, Inc. (SNI) helps local firm with COVID-19 supply-chain challenges.

"If General Motors can repurpose automobile manufacturing plants in Michigan and Indiana, so can SNI convert its transducer factory to support this urgent cause" says Jeff Anderson, President and General Manager.

Clear acrylic face shields are in high demand and Mr. Vern Squier, President & CEO of the Chamber of Business & Industry Centre County introduced two local companies to work together and help-out.

After receiving base-stock materials from the local face-shield manufacturing company and importing the component’s CAD file into SNI’s laser-engraving & cutting machine, SNI quickly fabricated a few prototype samples for approval.

Once given the green light to proceed, SNI started quantity production including 300 pieces on the April 2nd night shift.

Dr. James Barshinger, SNI’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) indicated that they have a second laser- cutting machine on back order and will be asking the machine supplier to expedite its delivery to enhance production of these badly needed face shields. "We’re happy to help however we can" said Barshinger.

"At times like these, it takes a village and Central PA’s village is stepping up," said Maureen L. Mulvihill, PhD, president and CEO of Actuated Medical, Inc. (AMI) of Bellefonte, PA. AMI shifted their focus to manufacturing face shields to support medical professionals during the pandemic. "We’re grateful that SNI joined our village to help meet demand."

Sensor Networks, Inc. State College facility is deemed an essential business and permitted to operate under Governor Wolf’s most recent stay-in-place mandate.
