TSP and Createc Kick Start Robotic Weld Inspection for Nuclear

TSP Engineering are delighted to announce that we are part of a consortium that has won a major contract as part of a £40million government initiative to kick start a clean energy economic recovery.

The programme funded by the UK Government aims to create thousands of manufacturing and green R&D jobs through developing the next generation of nuclear energy technology.

The project has been designed to support the UK’s economic recovery and meet the target of net zero emissions by 2050. Developing and progressing technologies to supply clean energy for the foreseeable future will work hand-in-hand with this aim.

In addition to the funding of Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR) projects, the government is investing a further £10million in the nuclear industry. Half of this, a total of £5million, is being invested in British companies and start-ups, to support and develop new ways of manufacturing advanced nuclear parts for modular reactor projects in the UK and abroad.

TSP Engineering is part of the consortium being led by Createc along with Nuclear AMRC to develop a robotic system to inspect the most challenging welds for the next generation nuclear plants. This is part of the initiative announced by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The collaboration with Nuclear AMRC and TSP Engineering was established by Createc, with the aims to provide technical and market expertise in radiography, CT and ultrasonic capability and to quantify and compare inspection performance.

Over the years, TSP Engineering has worked and continutes to work with many major nuclear contractors on key projects across the UK’s classified nuclear sites, as well as those in Europe and Japan. Projects include the supply of Waste Storage, Fuel Transport Flasks, Gamma Gates, Shield Doors and Handling/Decommissioning Equipment – all to an exacting level of Quality Assurance. Last year, TSP Engineering became the first globally to be certified to ISO 1994, evidencing their dedication and commitment to working to world class standards.

Nuclear AMRC helps UK manufacturers innovate and win work across the nuclear sector – in new build, operations and decommissioning – and in other quality critical industries.

Createc provides solutions to a range of industries, including the civil nuclear, oil and gas, construction, engineering, medical, aerospace, rail, defence and security sectors. The Createc team is a diverse mix of technical experts from fields such as Computer Vision, Robotics, Nuclear Measurement and Optics, with an agile engineering team which can efficiently build prototype systems and develop them into full products.
