Vessels/Projects

Gulf Horizon Iroquois Energy New York Harbor, NY
Cruce Rio Pilcomayo Petrogasbol Villa Montes, Bolivia
Castoro 10 Shell Canada Sable Island, Canada

Senior NDT Technician. Working out of the Edmonton and RTD Grande Prairie offices, Dec/01 – May/02, ran a mobile darkroom in northern Alberta and British Columbia. Was mostly involved with gamma radiography on small-inch pipelines, as well as some shut-down work using radiography and MPI. There were several clients involved, and I was expected to keep track of paperwork, billing, and time sheets for RTD. Clients also wanted me to track welds completed, repairs outstanding, and completed repairs, often with several lines involved.

June 01 – Nov 01 IRIS NDT Services Edmonton, AB

Senior NDT Technician out of the Edmonton office. I was a dayshift on-call operator. IRIS in Edmonton has many customers who call for a minimum amount of NDT, and this means I would occasionally be on six or seven jobs in one day. In order to make sure of timesheets and billing, it was imperative that I kept good records. There was always a lot of variety from day to day, with radiography and MPI being the most common inspections I performed at that time. I also worked for clients in the Red Deer and Calgary areas.

Sept 00 – May 01 Paladin Inspection Fort St John, BC

Senior NDT Technician, working mostly in northern British Columbia and northern Alberta. Paladin is owned by Bob Taylor, and while I worked for him, he had only two trucks. Along with the regular duties of a senior NDT tech., I was also expected to find some work through my own efforts. I had some success at this, without actually spending time in a formal sales capacity. Most of the work with Paladin was small-inch pipeline, fabrication, and call-out day jobs.

Oct 96 – Sept 00 Canspec Services Inc Edmonton, AB

Senior NDT Technician in the Edmonton area. I was originally hired at Canspec as a night shift fabrication shop Qualified Operator. While working there, I passed my certification for Radiography Level II, and I also took my courses for MPI, LPI, and UT. I was fortunate to be able to work with many good people, and on several different projects in the 4 years I was with Canspec. I have experience using Iridium 192 and Cobalt 60 for gamma radiography. I have used different x-ray tubes in various applications, including big-inch pipelines. I have seen some “Real-time radiography” equipment being demonstrated at the Edmonton shop. I have worked on drilling rigs, tank farms, pipelines and bridges. While working for Canspec I went as far north as the Yukon/NWT/BC border, and as far south as Swift Current Saskatchewan. Since I was always willing to go, and got the job done as required, I was able to see and do more than an average NDT tech.

Comments
Because I have been able to work both on and off shore, I have gained a very broad experience. I can get along very well in Spanish, and am currently enrolled for continuing Spanish language lessons. I took my first NDT course in 1980, and though I worked outside the industry for a time, I have been continuously employed as an NDT tecehnician for the past 8 years. I work hard and get along very well with all kinds of people. I am able to travel, and have no problems passing security clearance checks. Because much of my career outside the energy field was in a self-employed capacity, I gained valuable experience as a supervisor/manager/trainer. I learn quickly and have a calm manner, and I don't create difficulty with co-workers or clients. My wife and children support my career, and I have no problem with travelling on short notice.
