We are currently seeking candidates to perform and execute Non Destructive Inspection (NDI)/Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) research and development activities. Responsibilities will involve the development and selection of NDE systems/equipment required to support the manufacturing of the 787 41 section. Specific tasks may include: Design, fabrication, processing and testing of a variety of NDE systems in order to provide recommendations for final process, and system selection; Ensuring system down selection complies with program cost targets; Support other NDI engineers in the development, manufacture, and delivery of the 787 fuselage NDE equipment and systems; Evaluation of composite structures, with emphasis on theoretical/experimental aspects of materials development, and NDT composite reference standards to support the 787 airplane and other programs.

The successful applicants will have experience in the following areas:
• 5-10 years experience in NDT and experience performing composite materials and processing development
• Composite inspection and manufacturing processes
• Automatic inspection equipment for composites
• Basic understanding of specifications associated with the manufacturing and inspection of various solid laminate and honeycomb panel materials, i.e., BAC 5578, BAC 5317 and BAC 5980.
• Utilizing analysis/simulation tools in support of development activities is desired

Significant interface is required among various NDI organizations within the Boeing Company and with NDT instrument vendors, which in some cases will require some travel to the various vendors and other company site locations. You must have strong written and verbal skills and the ability to effectively work within a Life Cycle Product Team environment. A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Science Engineering with an emphasis on structures is required. Preference will be given to candidates with Formal NDT education, an MS in Engineering and 5 or more years experience in aerospace materials, processes and technical support.
